Also affects distribution/package Nominate for series Bug Description Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon I had seen similar symptoms in Natty testing and some other vm's but now this affecting my production system. gnome-settings-daemon crashes and the desktop appearance falls back to a mixture of default gnome and a few ambiance elements. The only logging I notices is https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/742374 in /var/log/messages (and kern.log). If I log out and log back in, the the daemon is restarted and the appearance is as expected. But only few moments of using Evolution provokes the next crash. Also a reboot did not alleviate the issue. excerpts from the crashes (one line per crash): Mar 25 11:34:02 schiefer kernel: [16304.972202] gnome-settings-[2419]: segfault at 0 ip 00007ff9151bdec0 sp 00007fffeba9cd78 error 4 in libglib-2.0.so.0.2600.1[7ff91515b000+e0000] Mar 25 11:45:20 schiefer kernel: [ 58.350342] gnome-settings-[2336]: segfault at 0 ip 00007f6e5a8ebec0 sp 00007fff94f8c388 error 4 in libglib-2.0.so.0.2600.1[7f6e5a889000+e0000] Mar 25 11:47:06 schiefer kernel: [ 163.928191] gnome-settings-[3287]: segfault at 0 ip 00007fa6bf504ec0 sp 00007fff4c8df858 error 4 in libglib-2.0.so.0.2600.1[7fa6bf4a2000+e0000] Mar 25 11:51:03 schiefer kernel: [ 401.565227] gnome-settings-[4105]: segfault at 0 ip 00007f9f0470bec0 sp 00007fff8d7c7b08 error 4 in libglib-2.0.so.0.2600.1[7f9f046a9000+e0000] ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 Package: gnome-settings-daemon 2.32.0-0ubuntu3.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-28.49-generic 2.6.35.11 Uname: Linux 2.6.35-28-generic x86_64 Architecture: amd64 Date: Fri Mar 25 11:53:43 2011 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" - Release amd64 (20101007) ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=de_AT.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: gnome-settings-daemon Tags: amd64 apport-bug maverick Edit Tag help David Aye
4th, 2009, 11:05 PMI'm having a strange problem with Nautilus crashing when i click on the "computer" icon in places menu... I also loose desktop icons as well. I get the following entry in my https://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1204439.html log file: Jul 4 22:43:34 Europa kernel: [43289.282786] nautilus[4715]: segfault at 0 ip b79083d7 sp bfc47954 error 4 in libglib-2.0.so.0.2000.1[b78ab000+b6000] i've reinstalled libglib-2.0.2000 just going to try a log out and back in to see if that fixes this... else anyone got a suggestion? *update* Still getting a segfault. Thinking of doing a reinstall anyway but would like to sort this out in case it happens again... jrutilaJuly 7th, 2009, error 4 10:28 AMI'm (actually my sister is) experiencing same kind of segfaults. I have only remote connection to the machine, but before she logs in with gdm everything seems calm. When she logs in and starts fro example gimp or pidgin following errors come to /var/log/messages. System is fresh Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04. It is an older computer where I added more RAM recently so it could be memory issue. I put her to run memtest to see if it is a memory issue. Do you have any other ideas what might cause this kind of behavior? wetmonkeyJuly 8th, 2009, 03:13 AMCheck out and if applicable, add a comment here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/396672 Looks like it's something recently happening. Did you just do an update or install UbuntuOne? Those were the 'new' things for me before it started. freakaladJuly 8th, 2009, 05:10 AMI'm getting this bug on one of my Jaunty-64 systems, but not on my laptop running 64-bit Jaunty. Both run KVM & libvirt, as well as UbuntuOne Will check bug reports too BennyLZJuly 8th, 2009, 12:13 PMI'm having this bug on jaunty.
