(a) 'invalid handle' in progammers terms means an attempt to open a file with low-level read capability failed - *why not* is the source of your troubles. If installers dont work, have you got administer rights? Is the place your installs try to use (typically c:\windows\temp) now set read-only? Can you save a file to c:\ and c:\windows\temp using say notepad and by the way, it's hard for us to help if you fail to fill in your details - we have to just guess you are using WinXP home for instance..... Thought maybe someone here would have an idea.System has:Windows XP Home. When trying to connect via Dial up modem... Modem dials, gets to Verifying username and password then gives the error "Error 6: The Handle is invalid" and goes into the redial after 60 seconds loop.I've removed all spyware (lots of it), installed Norton Antivirus error 6 the 2005 and performed full scan (only one virus found 'Downloader Trojan' which was successfully cleaned.) Still no luck. I also installed a new modem with a different brand chipset. Still no luck. Doing a Google search I've found other people who have the same problem and also the same error at different times (encoding movies, running Nero etc.) but so far no solution. When using broadband connection (DSL) everything works fine.Any ideas? · actions · 2005-Apr-21 9:03 pm · airoffI'd Rather Be SleepingPremium Memberjoin:2001-08-03West Branch, IA airoff Premium Member 2005-Apr-21 9:35 pm Don't use dialup? I would keep running the antivirus until you get a clean run. Also, check out spybot »www.spybot.info/en/index.html, it gets rid of dialers which may be interfering with the modem. · actions · 2005-Apr-21 9:35 pm · auggyModjoin:2001-12-24Brockville, ONkudos:20 auggy to Locutus65 Mod 2005-Apr-21 9:39 pm to Locutus65Is there any additional information on the error in the Event Viewer logs? · actions · 2005-Apr-21 9:39 pm · Locutus65Why bother?Premium Memberjoin:2001-05-24Houston, TXkudos:2 Locutus65 Premium M
