seems to be randow. By random, I mean usually in the same section of code, but I can run the code a few vba overflow integer times, then it appears. I can't reproduce it when I want to, and I have no idea what is causing it. Any ideas ? Thanks By the way the code is some record manipulation of 2 recordsets. https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa264525(v=vs.60).aspx Mar 24 '06 #1 Post Reply Share this Question 3 Replies P: n/a Allen Browne Overflow means that the data is too large for the data type that is trying to handle it. Open the Immediate Window (Ctrl+G), and enter: ? 200 * 200 The default number type in Access is Integer, and the largest integer is 32767. Therefore this simple calculation fails with an Overflow error. The solution is to force one of the https://bytes.com/topic/access/answers/472271-overflow-error numbers to be a Long integer, e.g.: ? CLng(200) * 200 Your calculations may therefore need typecasting to a Long, Double, or Currency, using CLng(), CDbl(), or CCur(). Note that these types do not handle Null, so you usually need to use Nz() inside those expressions too, e.g.: CCur(Nz([Quantity],0)) * [PriceEach] More info: Calculated fields misinterpreted at: http://allenbrowne.com/ser-45.html -- Allen Browne - Microsoft MVP. Ideally the MinVal should be 40316 from the data which is not big number as well. I have tried compacting and reparing the database. still the problem persist. However, when i run the above DMin from an access query it runtime error 6 is working fine. it is only in VBA it is not picking up. Any help will be appriciated. access-vba ms-access-2003 share|improve this question asked Oct 29 '14 at 13:26 staq 51138 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote You need to change Dim MinVal As Integer to Dim MinVal As Long. The maximum value of Integer (16-bits)is 32,767, whereas the max for Long (32-bits) is over 2 billion. Access stores Autonumbers as 32-bit Longs internally, so the queries have always worked. When you finished work on the last request that had ARRID <=32767, your VBA had to put a 32-bit value into a 16-bit box. Overflow is your warning that the conversion would be incorrect. Make your box bigger! share|improve this answer answered Oct 29 '14 at 13:37 pteranodon 1,7271618 I have changed it to Long and it workd thanks for your prompt response. –staq Oct 29 '14 at 15:45 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service.
