Any help is appreciated on the subject. If you shed some light on it let me know. I just slow down the rapid speeds to solve the problem when it throws it often during a specific part. You can replace max with say 2000 or so and it won't do it any more, but will still move quickly. This machine is new to me (just got it) and there is some duct tape around the Y axis encoder (not to mention I can wiggle the end cap around).

Started it up this AM and went through the normal startup which includes transversing the 3 axis. Everything was fine until we started the first program for the day and error c we got a GROSS POSITIONING ERROR Z.After a lot of research and trial and error, we've concluded the motor is bad or the simodrive is bad. But not sure which. Here's the symptoms:The Simodrive (6SN1123) has a fault code of 2 on it. When we start up the machine, it starts fine (oiling system and green start up button) but ONLY if we have gross positioning error the axis drive speed turned all the way down to ZERO. The moment we turn the drive speed up even a little bit, it immediately goes to GROSS POSITIONING ERROR Z.The weird thing is that the on-screen display (on the Heidenhain controller) shows the Z position actually increment (from 0.0008 to 0.0009) which leads me to think the motor/servo/encoder is fine and the Simodrive is bad. But I have no idea if that's accurate or not.Any idea of what/how to test? The Z axis servo is different than the X/Y on this machine, so I can't just swap to test (which was my first idea)Thank you kindly,Jason Suggestion To thank Quote Answer 1/16/2009 11:12 PM Rate (0) Dave Bronze Member Joined: 10/19/2005 Last visit: 5/9/2010 Posts: 271 Rating: (22) Hello Jason, On yourBridgeport VMC 1000 you have3-axes with a gross positioning error on the Z-axis using Simodrive 611-A. This means that the motor is probably a 1FT5 series AC servomotor; therefore, fault #2 indicates that the drive recognizes that the commutation of the motor is failing for some reason. It could be that the Hall Effect sensor in
