The Javascript works great when it is located on the same domain as the SWF. But in one case, the HTML http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1038668/cross-domain-externalinterface-error-calling-method-on-npobject resides on domain A, the javascript and the flash both reside on domain B. I have done all of the following: The embed tag has allowScriptAccess="always" (and the object has that as a param) My SWF file's actionscipt has Security.allowDomain("*") My SWF also calls Security.allowInsecureDomain("*") Both domain A and domain B have a /crossdomain.xml file which has allow-access-from domain="*" The SWF is able to call javascript on the page, but when I use Javascript to call functions exposed by ExternalInterface, I get Error calling method on NPObject! [plugin exception: Error in Actionscript. Use a try/catch block to find error.] This is ActionScript 2 so ExternalInterface.marshallExceptions is not available. javascript flash actionscript-2 externalinterface share|improve this question edited May 24 '12 at 15:50 lord_t 1,92921536 asked Jun 24 '09 at 14:17 Josh 8,39274489 Are you loading up more than one swf? in my app (no actionscript!). Is it possible that this error comes from some newrelic.jar class ? tdoherty 2014-07-07 15:33:00 UTC #3 Hi Daniel, It is difficult to say what might be causing this. But as an https://discuss.newrelic.com/t/error-calling-method-on-npobject/2964 initial troubleshooting step, lets try to eliminate some of your browswer addons. Can you try use Chrome in Incognito mode, or with all addons disabled and see if this helps? Please let us know how that goes for you. Also, https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=107641 it would be very useful to know if your page has any adds in it, Google, Bing etc. Tom daniel_goldberg 2014-07-07 18:21:31 UTC #4 Hi Tom, thanks for reply. We don't have any addon in our page. I could not error calling reproduce the error. I tested the page with IE, Firefox and Chrome (Mac and Windows environment) and nothing happens but in our page, in the last six hours, we had 65 NPObject error. We only have one js library (Strophe - https://github.com/strophe/strophejs) but it doesn't need any flash file. Do you have additional information about this error in our app? alexis 2014-07-08 16:40:04 UTC #5 To help us investigate this further, can you provide a URL to the page error calling method on your site where you're seeing this error occur? That way we can take a look at how the New Relic monitoring scripts are being injected and what they may be interacting with. NPObject is not only used for Flash or Actionscript (although this is a very common case where it appears); it's an interface to any foreign (non-Javascript) code. It also would be helpful if you could provide a permalink to the application your site is reporting to in New Relic. To create a permalink to any page within the New Relic user interface, scroll to the bottom and click 'Permalink ∞' all the way on the right next to 'Kiosk Mode.' This will show us the exact page and time period that you are observing. It's safe to post a permalink on the forum; only New Relic staff and users with existing access to your account will be able to use it. daniel_goldberg 2014-07-08 19:08:51 UTC #6 Hi Alexis, It's not possible to give you a link now, only certain users could access to this part of the site. I've asked to security department some dummy users for you but I need to wait for that. I could give you the development environment. Have you some secure way to do that? permalink:https://rpm.newrelic.com/accounts/39947/browser/3385755/js_errors?tw[end]=1404845872&tw[start]=1404824272 alexis 2014-07-08 19:43:00 UTC #7 Thanks for the permalink! Description lafefish 2013-01-23 00:24:19 PST if np plugin throw some error exception message to browser, webkit ignore that and show "Error calling method on NPObject." text only in c_instance.cpp, we can see code like this { JSLock::DropAllLocks dropAllLocks(exec); ASSERT(globalExceptionString().isNull()); retval = _object->_class->invoke(_object, ident, cArgs.data(), count, &resultVariant); moveGlobalExceptionToExecState(exec); } if (!retval) throwError(exec, createError(exec, "Error calling method on NPObject.")); in case throw exception inside np plugin function, np plugin function call is fail, so 'retval' is false and in case of that kind of situation, inside moveGlobalExceptionToExecState function, make error exception, but after moveGlobalExceptionToExecState call, throwError is called, so message made inside np plugin is overwritten so I changed moveGlobalExceptionToExecState function, moveGlobalExceptionToExecState have bool type retun value, if inside moveGlobalExceptionToExecState throwError is called , this function return true, in that case, throwErro
