Following the methods outlinged in the Redbook file sg246495.pdf. I should be able to use ASU.exe to nuke it back to defaults, as we do not know the old userid and password which is in the card. They are not the defaults: USERID/PASSW0RD. You apparently need the old userid/password if you are using the IBM Director, MPCLI or web interface. So these methods were not attempted. Setting up the ASU required making sure the RSA def patch is applied. From what I've read, the latest version of ASU already comes preinstalled with the RSA patch, so all I needed to patchadd was the BIOS for the 345. So, now, asu patchlist shows BMC, RSA and BIOS. When i run asu resetrsa, I get: RSA/RSA2 not present. Halting! Nor do any of the other RSA queuing commands seem to work. The RSA is accessible through the RJ45 jack via web and telnet however, and the IP settings in the 345 BIOS are adjustable, but because of the current firmware, the <

All of them include a Remote Supervisor Adapter II slimline (RSA II) for system management. There was a unknown password on it and I had to bring the RSA II back to it's factory default. I followed several ways how to do it and read many forum posts about it but it took a long time https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=399539 until it worked for me (Don't try MPCLI, never got a connection to my RSA II!). So hopefully this short how-to will bring you back access to your RSA II too! This manual uses a Linux live system loaded from CD, so you don't have to touch your already installed operating system! To follow this instructions you have to download http://brain4free.org/wiki/doku.php/blog:reset_password_on_a_ibm_rsa_ii the following files: IBM Remote Supervisor Adapter II Daemon v1.53 for Linux download the file ibm_svc_rsa2_hlp253a_linux_32-64.tgz IBM Advanced Settings Utility (ASU) for Linux download the file ibm_utl_asu-3.60-asut69k.i386.rpm Fedora 14 live CD iso image Step by step instruction Burn the Fedora iso image to a CD rewritable (to save the environment), else use a normal CD-R Copy the other downloaded files to a USB memory stick Boot your IBM system and select the CD as boot media Wait until the Fedora live system is finished booting Plug-in the memory stick and open it in a file browser Open ibm_svc_rsa2_hlp253a_linux_32-64.tgz go to RPMS and extract ibmusbasm-1.53-2.rhel5.i686.rpm Install (by double clicking on it): ibmusbasm-1.53-2.rhel5.i686.rpm Install ( by double clicking on it): ibm_utl_asu-3.60-asut69k.i386.rpm Open a terminal (In the starter menu under system tools) Get root, the live CD does not ask for a password, type and press enter: “su” Install libusb, type and press enter: “yum install libusb-devel” Reload ibmasm daemon, type and press enter: “ibmspdown && ibmspup” Wait about 10s Make sure it was loaded correctly, type and press enter: “tail /var/log/messages”
your account only takes a few minutes. Join Now Friend's boss acquires the x3650 2U server from the boss's buddy in California and had it shipped out here. The thing doesn't turn on right from the start. Here is a basic https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/325062-troubleshooting-an-ibm-x3650-server-need-ideas list of conditions and troubleshooting he's tried: A) Plug it in and the system fans light up (mostly, see attach). B) Power supply Fan spins up. C) LED on motherboard by Fan 8 blinks green every second. D) Front/Back panel power LED blinks green. E) RSA II Board has a blinking Error Light. F) Management NIC does have activity but does not seem to be pulling DHCP. Troubleshooting Attempted: 1) Reseated VRM 2) Reseated Memory 3) Reseated RSA error communicating II 4) Tried using backup BIOS 5) Removed Battery to reset BIOS 6) Reseated Power Supply Backplane 7) Tried booting with nothing plugged in except CPU, Ram, and Lightpath Panel He did get a one-off symptom that went like this: Plugged in after the weekend and the system fans turned on for 2 seconds. LPD board showed error on VRM and BRD. VRM, 12VC, 12VD LED on motherboard where lit. Reseated VRM, it went back to original issue. This is the motherboard: http://sklep.ripe.pl/userdata/gfx/072b4caa5f0e11aad759cda7b1c87693.jpg We had thought it could be some kind of lock or key that needs to be in place before it will turn on, doesn't seem to be the case. Tried shorting the power-on pins directly to make sure it isn't the button. Tried booting up with minimal parts plugged in. He tried swapping between either of the power supplies. Also tried without the RSA II installed. There isn't much info on this machine, and the user manual only goes so far. What else could be the issue on one of these? Should also note, this is the 7979 model for the system. Is there some other trick to test for mobo function?
