Re: Unable to mount Windows 2008 NFS Datastore in VMware vSphere gattmar Oct 28, 2013 4:41 AM (in response to IcePolo) This is most likely to be something to do with the firewall (Security Profile). Although you have verified that NFS Client is allowed, I have experienced a situation whereby I had to explicitly enter the IP address of the NFS storage into the filewall configuration for NFS to successfully add the NFS storage. I was unable to mount the NFS storage whilst the Firewall Settings for NFS were set to "Allow connections from any IP address". Give this a go and se if it works for you too. error after setting up and FlexVolume on a Netapp filer and trying to connect to it from vSphere ESX host. I had run through the wizard and made sure https://karciauskas.wordpress.com/2010/02/18/error-during-the-configuration-of-the-host-cannot-open-volume-vmfsvolumes/ that each of the ESX hosts had read/write access as well as https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/27202880/VMWare-NFS-datastore-on-a-Server-2008-NFS-share.html “Root” access to the export/volume but I continued to get this error: “Error during the configuration of the host: Cannot open volume: /vmfs/volumes/270c64e8-cae0114b” Originally I thought it may be that I had underscores in my export name as described in the Vmware KB article. I changed the export name error during to something without an underscore but still no dice. It turns out even if you specify Unix security when creating the export, the Netapp filer will create it using NTFS by default! Why it sets the underlying security to NTFS on a NFS export with Unix security is beyond me. It may be the version of OnTap on our old dev filer configuration of the (7.2.6.1) To change this you need to do the following: Logon to your filer web management interface Expand “Volumes” Expand “Qtrees” Click “Manage” Click on the “NTFS” link next to the export you need to change Change the security style to “Unix” and then apply Go back to your host and try adding the NFS volume I recommended getting familiar with this Netapp and vSphere best practices document as well. Solved VMWare NFS datastore on a Server 2008 NFS share Posted on 2011-07-14 VMware 1 Verified Solution 10 Comments 2,950 Views Last Modified: 2012-06-27 I'm running VMWare ESXi v4.1. Have created an NFS enabled share on server 2008. The share is called sharename. Using vSphereClient, configuration tab, storage, add data stores-- add NFS datastore I enter the the ip address of the windows server for the computer and /sharename as the folder. Get an immediate error that I can't diagnose-- can't tell if vSphereClient can't find the server, or the connection is rejected. I've replace our actual host IP with "hostIP" in this error report. Call "HostDatastoreSystem.CreateNasDatastore" for object "ha-datastoresystem" on ESXi "hostIP" failed.
