Error number -9783 Two machines are Windtunnel http://www.printerforums.net/threads/pictwpsdoc-print-error-9783.6817/ G4s and two are G5 1.6s The G4s are on 10.2.8 and G5s http://forums.macnn.com/90/mac-os-x/225833/error-cant-create-pictwpsdoc-private-var/ are 10.3.6. They connect to a Xerox EX 12 RIP on a Doc 12 printer via IP Printing. (appletalk and Rondezvous are toast, too) but they'll all print fine from Classic. I've read about this problem and that there is a script from allosx.com, but that site is dead. I'm trying to avoid error during completely rebuilding the machines, but it looks bad. Here's what I've done, thus far... Verified and repaired permissions Ran fsck -f and fsck -fy in single user mode Ran Print Center Repair and Printer Setup Repair Reinstalled (in place) OS 10.3 on one G5 Upgraded one G4 to 10.3.6 Reinstalled the printer with new PPD from Xerox Upgraded the RIP syestem. Now, I've got 32 other machines error during execution that are unaffected and I'm hoping it's not something viral. Anyone have any suggestions? Error number -9783 I have looked all over the net for the answer to this. Everyone points to a script on a web site that doesn't exist any more, allosx.com, which doesn't help anyone. Error: "can't create PictWPSDoc from /private/var/spool/cups" when printing in 10.3.5 Tennberg Junior Member Join Date:Apr 2001 Status: Offline Aug 26, 2004, 02:59 PM Hi everyone, The company I work for is currently migrating our Mac users to 10.3.5. Like many other design firms, we use a Canon CLC color copiers connected to RIPs running EDOX 4.3 on top of Windows 2000. The Macs we have that are currently running 10.2.8 are able to successfully print to these printers by using LPR, typing in the name of the print queue from the RIP, and adding in the right PPD and selecting it. We have a few Macs right now testing 10.3.5 before we do a full deployment. Some of them are able to successfully print to the CLC printers using the method above (LPR, correctly naming the print queue, correct PPD). However, there are two Macs running 10.3.5 that are having severe problems printing to these two printers. Having configured them as above, when printing from any Adobe apps, the user gets the following error after printing the document: "can't create PictWPSDoc from /private/var/spool/cups/d00004-001. ERROR during execution of pictwpstops. Error number -9783." These two computers were able to print to these CLCs last week. In addition, printing from Apple apps (Preview, TextEdit) returns the error "empty print file". I tried reinstalling the PPDs, using IPP or Windows printing instead, reverting to the previous version PPDs, and still come up with the same error. I've tried deleting the full contents of the /private/var/spool/cups folder and recreating the tmp folder with the right permissions. Same error. I even took a test Mac, installed 10.3 from CD, upgraded to 10.3.5, installed the PPDs, and installed Illustrator, nothing else. Still, the same error. I called Apple since these two Macs have full AppleCare support. However, Apple will not even touch the issue since it's connecting to a Windows RIP. They only support direct network printing or USB printing, even though there
