Trying the first backup to https://sourceforge.net/p/backuppc/mailman/message/13550912/ a host, also Centos, I received the following: full backup started for directory /home/backuppc/test/log/ Got fatal error during xfer (fileListReceive failed) I tried it first without the ending / on that directory with the same results. backuppc is the owner etc of everything in that directory. Can someone give me a pointer where to look for the problem? Can someone give me a pointer where to look for the problem? Have you searched for 'fileListReceive failed' in the list archives? There are quite a few threads on this: http://www.mail-archive.com/search?q=fileListReceive+failed&l=backuppc-users%40lists.sourceforge.net I assume you're using rsync over SSH, but you don't give us a lot of info to go on. - Make sure you're using -D instead of --devices in the rsync command lines with more recent versions of rsync - Make sure you can login to your client by running the command as the backuppc user on the backup server manually. If you're using SSH keys you need to OK the host fingerprint the first time you login, which BackupPC cannot do for you. Nils Breunese. --------------------------------------------------------

This is a bug in the libfile-rsyncp-perl package (upstream) and is fixed in later versions of the package. I have built the 0.68 package using the error during xfer same diff as the libfile-rsyncp-perl_0.52-1 package and it works correctly. Add tags Tag help ward (ward-pong) wrote on 2006-11-29: #1 Confirmed here, I think. Something in Edgy's rsync is triggering this bug. Running backuppc off a Debian sarge box with ubuntu edgy clients fails with the infamous 'fileListReceive failed' error. Dapper clients back up without problems. I compiled the source .deb from feisty (0.64-1) and put it on my Sarge box, but that did not help, it still contains the (upstream?) bug. I then applied the 0.64-1 package diff to the 0.68 source .tgz, created an 0.68 package that way, but I still get the same error. Hrm. Robert Collins (lifeless) wrote on 2006-12-03: #2 Josh, can you give more details on the precise error you are seeing, and claiming to be fixed upstream?
