that your database login credentials are wrong or have been changed. It could be that your database server is unresponsive. It could be that your database has been corrupted. Majority of the times this error happens because of some sort of server error. Also, there could be other factors as well. To troubleshooting this problem: - double check your wp-config.php file settings for the database name, database username and database password, and the host name (e.g., "localhost" Vs. something else). This is where most errors occur. - Then make sure wp-config.php is in right location. - Then check that you don't need to change the database host from "localhost" to something else. You can get that info from your hosting provider. - Check you have actually created a database with the same database name as is in your wp-config.php file. - Last, but not least, if all that information is correct your database probably has a problem with it. - There are also many threads on this topic on these forums: http://wordpress.org/search/Error+establishing+a+database+connection?forums=1 phaik kee @phaik-kee 8 months, 3 weeks ago The host name is ‘localhost' as it is in MAMP. 6 CommentsI've installed MAMP on my Mac to do some changes to my blog. I tried to set the WordPress wp-config.php file to connect to localhost:8889, but got an error that It could not connect to the database. After replacing localhost:8889 to 127.0.0.1:8889 it works. My quick guess is that permissions for the root user is set to allow connections 127.0.0.1, but not localhost. Anyway, it works now.My wp-config.php file looks like this:define('DB_NAME', 'wordpress'); /** MySQL database username */ define('DB_USER', 'root'); /** MySQL database password */ define('DB_PASSWORD', 'root'); /** MySQL hostname */ define('DB_HOST', '127.0.0.1:8889');RelatedFiled Under: Wordpress Tagged With: Apple, mac, Mac OS X, mySQL, PHP, SQL, Web, Wordpress« Doing some measuring on audio moddingNerd night »Comments Janus saysJune 9, 2009 at 12:10 CEST Thanks!
