I just did a clean install of SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer on a Win7 Pro PC. It has been working fine, and I copied my database created in SQL Server 2000 to it, and have accessed it (within SQL Server) with no problems. I just installed CF9 then the CF9.0.1 update, and had same problem, same error message when trying to set up the database connection in C

Connection refused:connect As soon as I saw that Service Pack 2 had a built in firewall .. that to me said STAY THE HECK AWAY FROM THAT https://forums.adobe.com/thread/841204 GARBAGE. ( being a developer that is ) .. I have had experiences in the past where just installing a firewall ed up my hours and hours spent configging localhost to work with CF mx server. I ended up going with Tiny Personal Firewall then Sygates free one. Zone Alarm worked me and the uninstall didn't do much but kill my OS install. Sounds like xp pro / sp1 is good place to stay. Connection refused:connect I spent an entire morning trying to solve the connection issue between SQL Server and CF Server until I found your post. YOU HAVE SAVED ME FROM SUICIDE! I'm praying to GOD that he lets you in Heaven when you die; no matter what you have done wrong. Thanks a million! Scandle Guest June 21st,09:28 AM #4 Re: Error establishing socket. Connection refused:connect Hi I've experienced the same problem with xp2 - and used the odbc connection, which worked fine up to a point. Although certain pages in my site stopped working and I got a message that the functionality wasnt supported by the odbc connection. Has anyone come across this before? iborsb Guest June 27th,03:16 PM #5 Re: Error establishing socket. Connection refused:connect Hi, I've just installed coldfusion on my computer, I got the Microsoft SQL server on another one. I connected through the ODBC by defining a login and password to be sure..This works when I try to connect to the SQL server using ASP. then in CF7, I add an odbc socket and here is what I got if I do exactly what you said Jimmy, meaning leaving the user as s
there on this subject but I seem to have to reinstall sql server on my laptops often and I always have to hunt down how to do it so I thought I would post a blog so it http://blog.ryanvikander.com/index.cfm/2010/8/11/Using-Local-SQL-Server-Express-2008-Server-with-Coldfusion would be a bit more recent. I won't go over installing SQL Server Express, it http://www.carehart.org/blog/client/index.cfm/2006/7/8/sql2k5_error_establishing_socket takes a while seems like a good 30 minutes. Anyways, once you install it you can connect to your local database by connecting to the server (depending on what you named your server) [PC_Name]\SQLEXPRESS and depending on if you are using windows authentication you would enter your user name and password.Ok so once you've gotten that installed there are some more tricky error establishing stuff you need to do within SQL Server. First you will need to turn on TCP/IP which is located under Start > Microsoft SQL Server 2008 > Configuration Tools > SQL Server Configuration Manager. Once you open up the manager go under: SQL Server Network Configuration and click on Protocols for SQLExpress (I assume this the name of the server). By default TCP/IP is disabled. So enable it by right clicking and enabling it. You will be prompted error establishing socket to restart your server service but I would wait until finished to do so. Now double-click TCP/IP or right click and go to Properties. Go into the IP Addresses tab and for each IPs enter in under TCP Port 1433. This allows for Coldfusion to connect to your database. Now you can apply and restart your server service. A tip if you skip that last step you will get this annoying error message and this is why I needed to post this:Connection verification failed for data source: rvikander java.sql.SQLNonTransientConnectionException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error establishing socket to host and port: localhost:1433. Reason: Connection refused: connect The root cause was that: java.sql.SQLNonTransientConnectionException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error establishing socket to host and port: localhost:1433. [Add Comment] [Subscribe to Comments] Could be a number of things, first thing to check is TCP/IP is not disabled, to check run netstat see if you find localhost 1433 or something like 192.168.1.1, 1433. Do 'telnet localhost 1433' see if it fails, if so TCP/IP is not open. Check Charlie's post on this he explains how to turn it on.http://www.carehart.org/blog/client/index.cfm/2006... # Posted By John Ramon | 8/12/10
cfmx, sql server Are you getting the error, "Connection refused" or "Error establishing socket to host and port", trying to connect to a SQL Server database from ColdFusion? The short answer is: Open the "SQL Server Configuration Manager" in SQL Server, then "SQL Server Network Configuration", and its "Protocols For [yourserver]" option. Open it and ensure that TCP/IP is enabled as a protocol. If not, enable it, and restart SQL Server. And if it is enabled, right-click on that TCP/IP option, choose the "IP Addresses" tab, and among the listed features, check if "ipall" (among the last in the list) has the port set to 1433 (or whatever is your SQL Server port), then restart SQL Server. More detail below. If you don't want to enable the "ipall" option, check the other entries to find the IP you're using, and ensure it's "enabled" and the "tcp port" is set to 1433. And if it's "still not working" after you make these changes, do make sure that the problem is not that you're now getting a different error, like "Cannot open database "yourdbname" requested by the login. The login failed." :-) That just means you have a new and different problem to solve, now that this one is resolved. The rest of this entry explains additional details, such as how to find and make that change, what specific errors you get, and how I found the information, in case any of it helps others. I should add that this worked for SQL Server 2005 and 2008. (I don't have SQL 2000 against which to test how things are similar or different, but I do point to some old CF docs that may apply to that version.) Update: while I wrote this post in 2006, for CF 6/7 and SQL Server 2005, it applies generally to later versions of both. The Errors You May See To help ensure that future readers can find this entry more readily when doing web searching, let me offer details on the error. The problem I'm referring to is if you get any of the following errors. In the CF admin (7 and above), when adding, editing, or verifying a SQL Server datasource, you may get the following error: Connection verification failed for data source: blogcfcsql java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error establishing socket. Connection refused: connect The root cause was that: java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error establishing socket. Connection refused: connect O
