replies - 1 through 11 (of 11 total) Tara @t-p Volunteer Moderator 9 months ago In nutshell, you're getting this error because WP is unable to establish a database connection. Reason why WP is unable to establish a database connection can vary. It could be that your database login credentials are wrong or have been changed. It could be that your database server is unresponsive. It could be that your database has been corrupted. Majority of the error establishing a database connection godaddy times this error happens because of some sort of server error. Also, there could be other factors as well. To troubleshooting this problem: - double check your wp-config.php file settings for the database name, database username and database password, and the host name (e.g., "localhost" Vs. something else). This is where most errors occur. - Then make sure wp-config.php is in right location. - Then check that you don't need to change the database host from "localhost" to something else. You can get that info from your hosting provider. - Check you have actually created a database with the same database name as is in your wp-config.php file. - Last, but not least, if all that information is correct your database probably has a problem with it. - There are also many threads on this topic on these forums: http://wordpress.org/search/Error+establishing+a+database+connection?forums=1 phaik kee @phaik-kee 9 months ago The host name is ‘localhost' as it is in MAMP. Double check db name ‘mysite' , db username ‘root' and db password ‘root'. wp-config is the folder ‘mysite'. In http://localhost:8888/mysite/ Blank page with ‘Error establishing a database connection' message. Can I put the wp-config here. It does have some weird script appeared from no where.

1 month, 1 week ago Using Dell PC with Windows and error establishing a database connection aws MAMP localhost with ports 8888/8889, MAMP IS running Apache & MySQL, have used root for the error establishing a database connection wamp user name and password. Have tried blank for password. Still get message: "Error establishing a database connection." If I enter localhost:8888, there is a list of databases https://wordpress.org/support/topic/mamp-error-establishing-a-database-connection-after-edit-wp-config/ I have tried. I believe MAMP is working. If I change the ports to 80, then it says "Apache needs open port 80 which is already being used by another service or application. Please reconfigure APACHE to use free port." It looks like port 80 is used by the system (NT Kernel & System). How https://wordpress.org/support/topic/database-connection-error-in-installation-with-mamp-on-dell-pc-windows10/ can I install WordPress using MAMP? After selecting English, the database is not supposed to have a wp-config.php file so how can it not match? When I edit the sample and save wp-config.php with the database name, root, root or blank, localhost and wp_ the result is: Error in establishing a database connection Are there any other suggestions? WP-CLI by Shawn Hooper. I already had WP-CLI installed on my computer so I was a bit confused when I couldn't get most of the commands to run. I use MAMP for local development, and as it turns out, it takes a little doing to get it working with MAMP. Here's how I got it working. Follow the install & upgrade instructions at http://wp-cli.org/ After running $ wp --info, I could see that WP-CLI was using a version of PHP that came with my computer instead of MAMP's version. When I tried to run $ wp help from within a local install of WordPress, I got a message starting with the following: Error:

We need to change the version of PHP that WP-CLI tries to use. To do that, we need to edit our bash profile. We can open the file with the following command: $ open ~/.bash_profile Add the following to your bash profile to switch the version of PHP to the one MAMP uses. Make sure to check the PHP version number that you're using with MAMP, which can be done by opening MAMP's preferences. You should see the path to MAMP's version of PHP. Also try $ which php, which should also return the path to MAMP's version of PHP. If you're still getting an error about connecting to the database, make sure MAMP is running. Thanks Rami, this post, this post, this stackoverflow post, and this video Like this:Like Loading...
