I went through a lot of sas2flash.efi download internet forum trying to upgrade my my LSI 9211-8i to V16 IT, but had no 9211-8i firmware luck. I currently do not have a system with a BIOS that supports EFI Shell. I tried upgrade via different methods: - freenas sas2flash FreeNAS SAS2FLASH (can't convert IR to IT) - FreeDOS (Failed to initialize PAL. Exiting program) - Windows Boot Disk (Erase flash command not Supported on this platform.) I've read that is highly recommended to have the firmware version error: cannot flash it firmware over ir firmware! to match the driver version. So I was wondering if a better way for upgrade / re-flash can be provided? For me, solved it by: Formatting the USB as freedos (using Rufus) - https://www.all4os.com/windows/create-a-bootable-ms-dos-or-freedos-usb-drive.html Downloading the Shell_full.efi, renaming to shellx64.efi, and putting it on the root of the drive - https://svn.code.sf.net/p/edk2/code/trunk/edk2/EdkShellBinPkg/FullShell/X64/Shell_Full.efi Downloading the sas2flash.efi - http://www.lsi.com/products/host-bus-adapters/pages/lsi-sas-9211-8i.aspx#tab/tab4 Booting to the ASUS bios and loading EFI shell (it's the last step, in the last page on the advanced screen on the bottom of the page, same page as "Save and Reset" Follow the rest of the instructions on this page (http://digitalcardboard.com/blog/2014/07/09/flashing-it-firmware-to-the-lsi-sas-9211-8i-hba-2014-efi-recipe/) ; to show the controller and verify the current version. sas2flash.efi -listall ; to erase the BIOS, do not reboot after this command. sas2flash.efi -o -e 6 ; to write the new firmware and BIOS. sas2flash.efi -o -f 2118it.bin -b mptsas2.rom More instructions here to compare: http://brycv.com/blog/2012/flashing-it-firmware-to-lsi-sas9211-8i/ share|improve this answer edited Apr 1 '15 at 23:06 answered Mar 29 '15 at 23:29 aronchick 156210 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest

Jul 23, 2013 #1 webbrowser n00bie Messages: 31 Joined: Jun 12, 2013 I'm having problems flashing IT firmware to my Dell H200 card on my SuperMicro X9SCM. The card identifies itself as an Internal Tape Adapter instead of a Perc H200. Here's what I've tried: - Boot to DOS, use LSI's sas2flsh.exe from the P16 firmware to try to erase the firmware. "ERROR: Failed to initialize PAL. Exiting program" http://mycusthelp.info/LSI/_cs/AnswerDetail.aspx?inc=7466 says that motherboards with EFI/UEFI bios have limited optionROM and suggests to use a different motherboard or try the EFI sas2flash.efi utility instead. I don't have any other motherboards available. - Boot to X9SCM's EFI Shell, use LSI's sas2flash.efi from the Installer P16 for EFI. Successfully erase firmware with "sas2flash -o -e 6", but when I try to write the P16 or P07 firmware 2118it.bin, I end up with a firmware fault, fault code D04. Managed to go back to the Dellized firmware A10. But despite checking that the 6GBPSAS.FW file came from the SAS non-Raid section, a subsequent sas2flash -list reports that the card is in IR mode. I've also tried the Dellized A08 firmware that Stanza recommended here, and still remained in IR mode. - Attempted to flash the LSI 2118it.bin without first erasing, and it reports that it is unable to flash IT firmware over IR firmware. - Googled some forum posts which suggest that LSI has removed the ability to cross-flash firmwares in later versions of the sas2flash.efi utility. The P12 version is known to work, but cannot be downloaded from t
