The file is either corrupt or the Player does not support the format you are trying to play. Above error results from trying to open a .avi file. Never been good with this stuff and have previously had other error messages, for other .avi files, relating to codecs etc. Is there anything simple I can try or is it most likely that the file is corrupt? How can I establish which codecs I have and which I need? Apologies for the total lack of knowledge in this area. Thanks in advance. Keep in mind that not every AVI file is a healthy one. I have rung http://www.sysopt.com/showthread.php?151533-Windows-Media-Player-error-0xC00D1199-Cannot-play-the-file canon and after downloading, quicktime, avs4u and other dowenloads that i was told would play the file; nothing happens. I think i accidentaly split the file on the camera before i downloaded it and this is the cause of the problem. I tried to return the file to the camera but that hasn't fixed the problem. I'm curious as to whether i can ever view https://forums.techguy.org/threads/error-id-0xc00d1199-condition-id-0x00000000-codec.863854/ this file or did i mess up too much at the start. christieants, Sep 25, 2009 #1 Sponsor RootbeaR Joined: Dec 8, 2006 Messages: 4,469 Try vlc player: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ RootbeaR, Sep 26, 2009 #2 christieants Thread Starter Joined: Sep 25, 2009 Messages: 3 VLC media player still did not open it. I think that is the problem as the error indicates an incomplete file. VLC will quite often repair damaged files like that. Sorry it didn't work for you. Maybe someone else will have a better suggestion. Good luck! P.S. I never edit on my camera. I save to PC, make a copy of file I wish to edit, then edit the copy keeping the original. I can then restart from scratch again if necessary by making another copy of original to edit. P.P.S. Another thought. See if remainder of split file is s

I have given thought to re-installing the whole WMP 10, but should anyone know exactly which codec I ought to get, it'd be best. Meantime I'll just await any assistance. Thanks as always, for the affable reply, Chris. If it is MP3PRO, for example, then Media Player may not be able to open it. If it is plain MP3, then Media Player should open it without requiring a different decoder unless the standard MP3 decoder has been replaced or altered somehow. Chris GoldWave Inc.
