Everyday i need to restart the this server. This server hosted at ISP location. We accessing this server from branches. We unable to take access this server f rom branches (WAN ) , but sametime i can take mstsc from local ( LAN AT ISP ). So only option we have to restart this server. So we take control of other server ( ISP LAN ) location & from there we take mstsc of this server. Then restart the server. After that we can take control from branches. We tried all option at network side ,but no luck.In event viewer i got below mention error.Error Details :-Event ID : 11164 Source : DnsApi The system failed to register host (A) resource records (RRs) for network adapterwith settings: Adapter Name : Host Name : Primary Domain Suffix : DNS server list : Sent update to server : *.*.*.* IP Address(es) : *.*.*.* The reason the system could not register these RRs was because either (a) the DNS server does not support the DNS dynamic update protocol, or (b) the authoritative zone for the specified DNS domain name does not accept dynamic updates. To register the DNS host (A) resource records using the specific DNS domain name and IP addresses for this adapter, contact your DNS server or network systems administrator. If its third party APP, can we telnet to server with port number APP is listening?MSTSC (RDP) use 3389 port and it works fine from internal network at same time, which mean server is acting fine.Does we use IP or name to connect to server? does it work with IP?Error is regarding name registration of server and i don't see that can cause an issue, as your machine will be pointing to local DNS server (Branch DNS server) and Server will be pointing to different DNS server.

Solved DNS Help - Server 2003 - Dnsapi Error Posted on 2011-10-25 DNS DHCP Active Directory 1 Verified Solution 9 Comments 1,713 Views Last Modified: 2012-05-12 Okay so about 10 https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/5dc7a0b8-4cfa-4cfc-8bfa-d735e5a1f3f6/event-id-11164-source-dnsapi?forum=winserverNIS days ago a lot of my servers started throwing "Dnsapi" Warnings in the System Event Viewer with Event ID 11164. I have not made any system wide or DNS changes recently so I dont really know why this is surfacing. We have about 45 servers and I also noticed the the Forward Lookup Zone A Records for about 6 servers dissapeared so they are not accessable via computer name. https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/27415104/DNS-Help-Server-2003-Dnsapi-Error.html I've read over some of the MS KB articles and tried the ipconfig /registerdns but that doesnt add the entry into DNS and throws the same error in event viewer on the local server. This doesnt seem to be occuring on any of our Server2008 servers and only on about half of our 2003 servers. All of our servers are configured with static IPv4 addresses. We only have 1 DHCP Scope setup and that is on a different subnet for desktop computers. I mention that because I know there is a configuration setting in DHCP scope for dynamic DNS updating. Any insight or direction resolving this would be greatly appreciated! I am afraid the problem could spread causing more issues. Here is a copy of the Dnsapi entry in Event Viewer on one of the servers: Event Type: Warning Event Source: DnsApi Event Category: None Event ID: 11164 Date: 10/24/2011 Time: 5:51:09 PM User: N/A Computer: ServerV8 Description: The system failed to register host (A) resource records (RRs) for network adapter with settings: Adapter Name : {F8E0CDD1-2803-437B-B014-1

I have got a problem to register a member server to our DNS server from a remote site. Actually, we have setup a remote site recently and located in a different network. And we make a permenant VPN connection to link to our corporate network. There is no problem for us to access any resources in our corporate network from that remote site. However, this member server cannot be registered in our DNS server. I have tried to join and dis-join the domain. It's still failed to register. When I use ipconfig /registerdns. I got the error message event id 11164, as follow: The system failed to register host (A) resource records (RRs) for network adapter with settings: Adapter Name : {9C8CB772-A5D6-489A-96DE-34A6860XXXXX} Host Name : xxxxxx Primary Domain Suffix : xxxxxx.com DNS server list : 10.56.0.32, 10.56.0.34, 10.18.2.26 Sent update to server : 10.56.0.32 IP Address(es) : 10.106.1.192 The reason the system could not register these RRs was because either (a) the DNS server does not support the DNS dynamic update protocol, or (b) the authoritative zone for the specified DNS domain name does not accept dynamic updates. To register the DNS host (A) resource records using the specific DNS domain name and IP addresses for this adapter, contact your DNS server or network systems administrator. Do you know how to solve these problems? If it is not already installed, install the Netdiag tool from the support tools on the install CD, and run netdiag /v in a cmd prompt. Post everything under this section: DNS test . . . . . . . . . . . . . :(Passed/Failed) The Netdiag tool creates a logfile in the directory it is ran from.
