Comments: David Fosbenner This error was occurring at boot-up on a Windows Server 2003 domain controller because DNS was not loading quickly enough to service this and other services. We changed the server's own DNS entry to point to another DNS server in the domain instead of itself, and all the errors went away. The solution is simple: Add the IP address of another DNS server on your domain as a secondary DNS entry in TCPIP. At boot-up, if the primary DNS server (the server booting) cannot respond to requests, it will use the secondary DNS server. Boot-up should process without errors, and once DNS is started, the server will use its own DNS for subsequent DNS queries. This appears to be a known issue with Windows AD domain controllers. x 12 Jeff Kuespert As a follow up, Rahisuddin's comments regarding this event within an Active Directory is accurate, and ME193888 provides addition information regarding how to handle this situation. Specifically, a client has a server that was refusing to start services with accounts other than Local System. A review of the event logs indicated the fact that the server, itself the local AD server and DNS server, simply could not find a local domain controller at the point that the services were starting. Solved Event ID 3096 on a new 2nd DC Posted on 2009-06-19 Active Directory Windows Server 2003 1 Verified Solution 18 Comments 1,202 Views Last Modified: 2012-05-07 I have just installed DC at a site on the other end of http://www.eventid.net/display-eventid-3096-source-NETLOGON-eventno-145-phase-1.htm a T1. Replication seems to be ok but I am getting the event ID 3096 cannot locate domain controller error in event view. I do not have any clients connected to DC2 just yet but want to make sure this is ok first. Both DC's have been setup as a site and subnets linked to them. They are also both GC servers. I did remove a DC 2 out of the site that did have https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/24507001/Event-ID-3096-on-a-new-2nd-DC.html DC2 before. I removed it from AD and got a new server for DC in another office. Here is the topology if that helps. You can edit your network card bindings to include the DNS Suffix of your domain (eg: yourdomain.net) to automatically bind it to your domain, so if the shortname "DC1" is called by DC2 AD to communicate with it, it will search for "DC1.yourdomain.net" and thus find it via DNS as long as your DNS is configured correctly. 0 Message Author Comment by:osxla2009-06-19 can you please tell me the steps to try this.
