Error Message List all disks visible to one or more nodes (including non-cluster disks).Prepare storage for testingPreparing storage for testing on node servername.localPreparing storage for testing on node servername.localFailed to prepare storage for testing on node servername.local status 87Failed to prepare storage for testing on node servername.local status 87 Solution This error occurs if a Windows utility partition is present that does not have a drive letter or nor folder mountpoint assigned to it. The "List All Disks" portion of the Windows Failover Cluster (WFC) validation wizard requires Windows automount to be enabled. Storage Foundation for Windows (SFW) disables automount when it is installed. While automount can ne re-enabled from Windows, this is not recommended for clusters. As a work-around, assign a temporary drive letter to the Windows utility partition before running the WFC validation wizard. The drive letter can be removed after the validation wizard is finished. are trying to create the MSDTC resources. We have presented a 1GB physical disk to the cluster and labeled it "MSDTC" with Drive letter = "M:". We can see these disks from Disk Management no http://www.nullskull.com/q/10085532/msdtc-problems-with-creating-physical-disk-resource.aspx problems. Following both articles listed below, we have run into some snags. The articles http://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/windows-system-error-codes-exit-codes-description are: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817064/ and http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;301600 If we use the Cluster Administrator, we create the MSDTC IP, Network name resources with no problem. When we get to the Disk resource is where we come across the last steps in choosing the Disk Parameters. The drop down is blank. others have experienced the same problem and there doesn't seem to error id be much help on the issue from our initial research. If I try to create manually via command line, I run the following: cluster res "MSDTC M:" /create /group:"MSDTC" /type:"physical disk" This displays: Creating resource 'MSDTC M:'... Resource Group Node Status MSDTC M: MSDTC XXXXXXX Offline where "XXXXXXXX" is my active cluster node. I then type: cluster res "MSDTC M:" /priv Drive="M:" and receive a System Error 87 has occurred The error id 87 parameter is incorrect. I have applied the hotpatch that addrressed this issue to no avail. Running diskpart, I select my disk, run details and get the Disk ID. I then tried: cluster res "MSDTC M:" /priv signature="0x11111111" where "11111111" is my Disk ID. No go. Error 87. I then went to regedit and put in the signature dword value myself under the HKLM\Cluster\Resources\ that matches the specific physical disk resource created earlier. Typing: cluster res "MSDTC M:" /on I receive this error: System error 5007 has occurred. Cluster resource could not be found. What is the deal here? Cluster admin shows the disk parameter blank, but OS sees it just fine from the SAN. It isn't partioned, just a LUN slice to physical disk presented to the nodes. Creating by command line fails as well. Note, this is on an Exchange 2007 cluster. We didn't see any DTC error messages until we applied Update Rollup 6, however no updates had been applied prior to that point. Once applied, the DTC error messages appeared once we manually failed over to the updated node. I have read from a couple of sources that Exchange 2007 doesn't require MSDTC, so then why are the messages only appearing AFTER we applied the rollup for
