Solved Tomcat error: HTTP Status 500 - No Context configured to process this request Posted on 2003-04-27 JSP 1 Verified Solution 4 Comments 472 Views Last Modified: 2010-08-05 I'm trying out a new app server called JBoss which is bundled with Tomcat and all i'm not getting the homepage of the server. Here's exactly what i've done when configuring JBoss and Tomcat (if I didn't mention it below, you can assume I didn't do it): I've installed JBoss on my Win2k machine at: C:\ jboss-3.2.0_tomcat-4.1.24 Set my environmental and system variables to: I started up JBoss just fine. No errors. Then I tried to access http://localhost:8080 That's when I get the following error: MAPPING configuration error for request URI /examples The Tomcat error page says: HTTP Status 500 - No Context configured to process this request ---------------------------------------------------------- type Status report message No Context configured to process this request description The server encountered an internal error (No Context configured to process this request) that prevented it from fulfilling this request. I hope someone can help me out and other people new to JBoss at the same time. I downloaded https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/20598174/Tomcat-error-HTTP-Status-500-No-Context-configured-to-process-this-request.html JBoss 3.0.6 and unzipped the archive, preserving directory names (of course). When I execute jboss-3.0.6\bin\run.bat (with no arguments), I get the HTTP Status 500 response, as mentioned by Netm in the above post.Any ideas would be very much appreciated! ;)- Jeff Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 2. Re: HTTP Status 500 - No Context configured to process this Jeff Davies Mar 5, 2003 1:19 PM (in response to netm) Well, this is embarassing ;)I'm on a new machine. I did not https://developer.jboss.org/thread/55318 have JAVA_HOME configured, nor was the Java \bin directory on my path (which shouldn't matter since JBoss comes with it's own runtime as I understand it).Anyway, once I configured JAVA_HOME and added cL\j2sdk1.4.1 to my PATH environment variable, the following URL worked for me:http://localhost:8080/jmx-console/Hope that helps! I can access the jmx-console but I can't look at any of the example servlets or jsps? I can't even get the original tomcat index page athttp://localhost:8080/to come up?Why have jboss changed this. Is there any documentation on what and why they've done this? Thanks,Mark. Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 4. Re: HTTP Status 500 - No Context configured to process this Mike Finn Mar 6, 2003 12:46 PM (in response to netm) You need to deploy an application to the deploy directory. The integrated Tomcat server is not the same as the 'stock' server, because the apps are mounted from the deploy directory, which is the server-wide place to deploy all non-core services and applications. If you drop in a WAR file (like a war from the Tomcat distro) or an EAR file, you will be able to get to it. There has been tons of discussion about this exact issue in forums and maillists. You can probably find more info

My TC 5.5 installation actually has an index.jsp at webapps/ROOT, and it is accessible just fine. Can you access other files (e.g. images) in that directory? William Brogden Author and all-around good cowpoke Rancher Posts: 13074 6 posted 9 years ago How much has this Tomcat installation been modified from the original? As Ulf said, the standard installation has an index.jsp under ROOT - the first thing you should do after installing Tomcat is verify that this page displays.
