Linux Error No Display Specified
It is possible to use a local X server and use X11 forwarding over ssh to display GUI apps like this. Possible but not desirable But if you have a web page that needs a GUI browser on that system then sometimes you have no choice. [closed] up vote 14 down vote favorite 16 I'm trying to run Firefox GUI browser on headless CentOS server in order to perform some web testing. I don't need to see the graphical output, because i use Selenium server API to control browser's input and inspect the output. The setup was successfully tested on desktop Mac computer. It, however, fails to run on my headless VPS CentOS server with following message http://serverfault.com/questions/363827/how-can-i-run-firefox-on-centos-with-no-display "Error: no display specified." (Which makes sense, since it's just a server sitting on a rack someplace.) How can I get Firefox to run without a display, so Selenium will be able to interact with it? Or - more broadly - how do people run GUI-only applications on a Linux server when there is no display? I've noticed that Firefox has this command line option: X11 options --display=DISPLAY X display to use Unfortunately I don't know anything about X11 or displays under CentOS so I don't know what to specify on the command line, or if this would help. linux centos firefox selenium share|improve this question edited Aug 6 at 16:37 Marek Rost 1085 asked Feb 26 '12 at 8:06 Eric 3151312 closed as too localized by John Gardeniers, mdpc, Lucas Kauffman, Khaled, Dave M Feb 1 '13 at 13:16 This question is unlikely to help any future visitors; it is only relevant to a small geographic area, a specific moment in time, or an extraordinarily narrow situation that is not generally applicable to the worldwide audience of the internet. How do i fix this? up vote 0 down vote favorite I error no just bought a VPS from BlueVM.com i've never owned or used a VPS before. I thought it would be an easy procedure since all i wanted it to do was run Mozilla firefox 24/7. But it's harder than i though it'd be :/ After purchasing i went to the VPS control panela nd then to the command center, with some google search i managed to download & install firefox onto my VPS. According to error no display google all i had to do was type: firefox and it should launch. As the title states above i got this: Error: no display specified How do i fix this? I did some google search and found some people having this problem too, unfortunately the tutorials they provided were not noob-friendly :/ I didn't understand anything. Please help me fix this problem guys :) Another thing! How would it be if i managed to launch firefox, would a firefox window just appear instead of the command center? firefox centos vps centos6 share|improve this question asked Apr 5 '15 at 19:31 Nero 41 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote Firefox will only launched if you have desktop version.
