Hi, I have just installed my first linux server as a mail server - UBUNTU 9 Server. The base installation seemd fine and then, using the admin guide "mail filtering section", I configured the mail filtering (CLAMAV and Spamassassin). Whilst the packages where installed OK - the configuration seems to have stopped with an error. The admin guide instructs me to edit a file so that the state is enabled. The actual excerpt from the guide is as follows: 5.2.2. Spamassassin Spamassassin automatically detects optional components and will use them if they are present. This means that there is no need to configure pyzor and razor. Edit /etc/default/spamassassin to activate the Spamassassin daemon. Change ENABLED=0 to: ENABLED=1So I entered: edit /etc/default/spamassassin The response is: Warning: unknown mime-type for "/etc/default/spamassassin" -- using aplication/octet-stream" Error: no write permission for file "/etc/default/spamassassin" I wondered if I needed to elevate to root so I tried: sudo edit /etc/default/spamassassin And the response was: [sudo]

The sudo does not traverse the redirect. The only part of the command with sudo access is the echo command and the user will get an access denied message. If you use: echo "text" | sudo tee file The tee command has sudo access and it will work. Use "tee -a" to add to a file like >> does and just "tee" like > works. actionparsnip (andrew-woodhead666) said on 2013-07-15: #3 What is the output of : cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/jonoomph-openshot-edge-precise.list Thanks james walter gist (budgist12) said on 2013-07-15: #4 I get the same message.
