Content Introduction How ClearCase objects get set to the ClearCase Admin Group Impact How to fix the problem Documentation Links INTRODUCTION When a VOB or objects contained within a VOB (elements and metadata) are owned by the ClearCase Administrators group, this will most certainly result in permissions errors whenever an operation is performed against that object by a non-Admin user. Since the administrators group by default has access to all ClearCase objects, it is not necessary to explicitly add that group and should be avoided. If as an Administrator you need to ensure that you authenticate as a ClearCase administrator, you can set the CLEARCASE_GROUPS variable to include the ClearCase Administrators group and set the CLEARCASE_PRIMARY_GROUP to the ClearCase users group. Review technote 1124574 for more information about the CLEARCASE_GROUPS variable. Review technote 1135509 for more information about the CLEARCASE_PRIMARY_GROUP variable. Do not add all users to the privileged group in an attempt to provide them access to the misprotected objects as this will pose a security risk since all those users would then be considered ClearCase admins. Instead you should reprotect the objects to the proper group (preferably a ClearCase users group) which the users are all a member of and which is a group that owns the VOB and all VOB objects. Review the ClearCase Command Reference Guide on the topic of permissions (cleartool man permissions) for more information. Back to top HOW CLEARCASE OBJECTS GET SET TO THE CLEARCA

[ author ] Here is the SAMBA log file of my machine with debug level = 5. I have reproduced the problem and could see some errors in SAMBA debug log https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba-technical/1998-July/001631.html file. Can any one of you help me in fixing this problem. I noticed one more strange behaviour. I have no problems with ClearCase element created using UNIX view from NT client. I can checkin/checkout the file element from NT view if the element is created using UNIX view If I create a ClearCase element for the first time from NT view, I get MVFS errors. (For details error no see my earlier mail) Note again : >PLEASE NOTE THAT I AM NOT A MEMBER OF SAMBA-TECHNICAL NEWS GROUP AND YOU ARE REQUESTED TO SEND YOUR REPLIES TO THE FOLLOWING MAIL ADDRESS - s.ravikiran at blr.sni.de Thanks in advance for your help and time Regards Ravikiran -----Original Message----- From: Richard Sharpe [SMTP:sharpe at ns.aus.com] Sent: Monday, July 27, 1998 10:58 AM To: s.ravikiran at blr.sni.de Cc: samba-technical error no group at samba.anu.edu.au Subject: Re: ClearCase/SAMBA- help required Hi S.Ravikiran, I have no direct experience with ClearCase, but have heard of it. I suspect that the folks at Motorola Australia may have some experience with Samba and ClearCase, but you would have to ask them yourself. Also, someone else with ClearCase experience on this list might respond as well. Problem was reported to Rational. The response I got was that probelm might be due to SAMBA which is not supported by Rational. >We increased the MAX_OPN_FILES of SAMBA to 1024, and still the problem is not resolved. Hmmm, 1024 is kind of large, since that number is per-user, and an individual PC is not likely to ask for more than about 255, I think. >Since I did not get much help from CCIUG and FAQs I am posting this message to SAMBA-TECHNICAL news group. > >Please let me know, if anyone of you have come across this problem and any one of you could fix this problem?
