I previously had 11.10 installed, with /dev/sda6 as the install partition mounted at / and with /dev/sda1 mounted at /home. When installing 12.04, I duly selected the same options, with no reformatting. I selected /dev/sda6 as the bootloader partition. I was warned, as expected, that the system files on /dev/sda6 would be deleted. After reinstalling, I can't get past GRUB: selecting the main boot option, or http://askubuntu.com/questions/125428/grub-complains-of-no-such-partition-after-installing-1204 the recovery mode option, both give me the error "No such partition", and the option to go back to the main GRUB screen. What's going on here? What partition is it saying doesn't exist? And obviously, how do I fix this? Edit 1: I get the error three times; it looks like: error: no such partition. error: no such partition. error: no such partition. Press any key to continue ... This also happens with the "Memory test" boot options. Entering the command line and running ls gives me the same error. 12.04 grub2 system-installation share|improve this question edited Aug 3 '14 at 19:16 Tim 14.6k858100 asked Apr 26 '12 at 15:56 eegg 194118 Glad that I am not the only one! plus.google.com/103621378732713508804/posts/i7ddQoUXJ52 –Stefan Lasiewski May 1 '12 at 21:30 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 28 down vote accepted To repair the Grub bootloader, try these steps. 1 - Live CD First, you'll need to boot from a Ubuntu Live CD. 2 - Repair the bootloader Open a terminal from the Live CD, and run the following commands: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install -y boot-repair boot-repair After a few seconds, Boot Repair's main window will open. for me! Laptop: Acer Aspire 5742 Running: Windows 7 64 bit Ubuntu 11.10 Problem: When booting my laptop today I accidentally selected the wrong boot and it gave me this error, in the grub menu it was the one above the Windows 7 boot loader. Now http://exceptionin.com/q/error-no-such-partition-grub-rescue-10 I can't boot into anything at all on my laptop. I've tried windows installation discs, ubuntu live http://exceptionin.com/q/error-no-such-partition-grub-rescue-15/1 CDs, super grub disc, literally everything. It doesn't even give me the option to boot from a CD. I've changed the boot order in the BIOS to check the CD-ROM first. The CD isn't the problem because it works just fine on my desktop PC, but I really need to get my laptop sorted for university and such like. All I get when I boot is the "Acer" error no logo with the option to press F2 to enter setup, then a black screen then: Code: error: no such partition. grub rescue> And that's it /: Can anyone please help me with this please? Thanks in advance! For anyone offering advice involving a disc boot, it won't boot from any disc at all! All the other threads I've seen with code in them, always says unknown command. I can't stress this enough, I can't get into windows or ubuntu, even using CDs because it won't boot error no such to a CD. 0answers Comments See all(0) Cancel Edit Add comment Related Questions GRUB- error: no such partition grub rescue> Before I start you should know that I am completely new to ubuntu. C. I used UNetBooth to install linux mint 15 from iso image from my hard drive. It installed correctly and I added windows 7 in the grub boot loader (took help from forums) and both the operating systems were working fine. Problem started?: I had one partition which I had assigned the letter M and one raw partition. I changed the letter for M to D and created new partition from the raw partition and formatted it and labeled it E using disk management utility in Windows 7. When I rebooted the system Grub boot loader was gone and black screen appeared with: Error: no such partition. Grub rescue> One problem was solved: Windows 7 bootloader was restored by selecting the repair option and then opening command prompt using installation disk by using the bootrec command but linux mint 15 grub2 is not installed. Many answers are available on forums but I want a simple one. Now I am unable to boot any operating system ( neither Window 7 nor Linux Mint). Please tell me some simple solution to it.
