question Anybody can answer The best answers are voted up and rise to the top ubuntu - install subversion from source - missing APR up vote 7 down vote favorite 1 Because I need a bug fix which is not available in Ubuntu's repository version of subversion, I am installing it from source. On running ./configure, I get an error: configure: WARNING: APR not install subversion ubuntu found The Apache Portable Runtime (APR) library cannot be found. Please install APR on this system and supply the appropriate --with-apr option to 'configure' or get it with SVN and put it in a subdirectory of this source: svn co \ http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/apr/apr/branches/1.2.x \ apr Run that right here in the top level of the Subversion tree. Afterwards, run apr/buildconf in that subdirectory and then run configure again here. Whichever of the above you do, you probably need to do something similar for apr-util, either providing both --with-apr and --with-apr-util to 'configure', or getting both from SVN with: svn co \ http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/apr/apr-util/branches/1.2.x \ apr-util configure: error: no suitable apr found Notes: 1) I have already installed libapr1 2) I am not able to install svn client, to follow the instructions in the error message (apt-get install svn - no package found - I have main, universe, restricted, multiverse in sources.list) ubuntu apache-http-server svn share|improve this question asked May 7 '11 at 12:19 tanon 48113 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 11 down vote accepted To compile a program depending on a library you generally n

When i do a ./configure --prefix /c/local/packages from my subversion-1.7.4 directory I get configure: error: No XML parser found! Please specify --with-expat or --with-libxml2 apr is failing to configure, says it can find libxml2 -- which is there /usr/lib/limxml2.so, I've also done http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9756951/apr-fails-to-configure-when-building-subversion an apt-get install libxml2-dev The thing is so dog slow it takes ages to fail, I would use a binary dist but the eclipse plug in didn't want to play with it because it was too old... any ideas? svn debian libxml2 apr share|improve this question edited Mar 19 '12 at 16:18 asked Mar 18 '12 at 8:12 Paddy Carroll 449316 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 3 down vote accepted The trick was to cd into the apr directory in the subversion source directory and do a ./configure --with-libxml2=/usr/lib before returning to the subversion source directory and running ./configure from there again. I had to update everything. The system came with Subversion 1.3.x. Why our company can't use anything newer than a 5.3 is a mystery to me. If you want to use Apache httpd as your server, you might have to rebuild Apache, so you can build the required mod_dav_svn.o Apache module. S

Versioning in svn3. References 1.1 SubversionSubversion is a free/open source version control system. That is, Subversion manages files and directories, and the changes made to them, error no over time. This allows you to recover older versions of your data or examine the history of how your data changed. In this regard, many people think of a version control system as a sort of "time machine." Subversion can operate across networks, which allows it to be used by people on different computers. At some level, the ability for various people to modify and manage the same set of error no suitable data from their respective locations fosters collaboration. Progress can occur more quickly without a single conduit through which all modifications must occur. And because the work is versioned, you need not fear that quality is the trade-off for losing that conduit--if some incorrect change is made to the data, just undo that change. Some version control systems are also software configuration management (SCM) systems. These systems are specifically tailored to manage trees of source code and have many features that are specific to software development--such as natively understanding programming languages, or supplying tools for building software. Subversion, however, is not one of these systems. It is a general system that can be used to manageanycollection of files. For you, those files might be source code--for others, anything from grocery shopping lists to digital video mix downs and beyond. 1.2 Install subversion on a linux machine Installing subversion is a pretty easy task. This section covers installing subversion from a source tarball, for client-type uses. This document is based on an install of Subversion-1.6.15.tar.gz, but the install procedure should be similar for other versions as well. For its functionality, subversion makes use of (depends on) a number or other pieces of software, all of which are also available f
