specified style in document” up vote 1 down vote favorite I just opened a word document, in MS Word 2007, and the following error appears before the Figure and Table numbers: Error! No text of specified style in document The figure/table names code (after pressing alt-F9) looks like: Table {STYLEREF 1\s},{SEQ Table\* ARABIC\s 1} This error was not present when I worked on the file previously and I am the sole user of the file. Why styleref 1 \s is this error occuring and what is the best way to troubleshoot/solve this problem? microsoft-word microsoft-word-2007 share|improve this question asked Sep 5 '13 at 11:01 atomh33ls 2463820 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 4 down vote accepted { STYLEREF 1 } is looking for a paragraph with the built-in style "Heading 1" (in English language versions of Word - if you are using another language version the heading styles may be named differently). So if you don't have one of those, the { STYLEREF } field will flag the error you are seeing. share|improve this answer answered Sep 5 '13 at 11:26 user181946 Thanks - therefore I can solve the problem by deleting {STYLEREF 1\s} altoghether –atomh33ls Sep 5 '13 at 11:54 1 { STYLEREF 1 \s } just inserts the heading number from the preceding Heading 1 style, so if you do not have any Heading 1 style paragraphs, there would be no point having the STYLERF field. I guess the "," after it should also go. –user181946 Sep 5 '13 at 12:04 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By post

No text http://superuser.com/questions/641315/ms-word-field-code-error-error-no-text-of-specified-style-in-document of specified style in document Hi all, I need your help to fix the problem "Error! No text of specified style in document", which is occurred in the cross-referencing of figure captions in my document I have a 70 page document, with about 50 figures(total document size is about 20Mb). In the text while discussing about the figures i have used Insert - Reference - cross reference to cross reference the http://www.wordbanter.com/showthread.php?t=82480 figures into text. But after printing the document in to PDF format, all cross referenced fields were displaying with error message "Error! No text of specified style in document". Then to fix the problem, i tried to update the fields in the whole document by selecting whole document(Ctrl A), then again all the cross referenced fileds displayed the same error. then i did undo the fields update and tried to update each figure caption individually. If i am doing the individual field update again i am getting the same error with the actual caption under the each actual figure. Please help me out to fix the problem as early as possible. I inserted a picture in Word (that included text) which I created in Photoshop. On it's own, Word inserted what appears to be a caption below the picture(with http://www.office-forums.com/threads/figure-error-no-text-of-specified-style-in-doc-1.1646407/ what appears to be a greyed reference field) that says "Figure Error! No text of specified style in document.-1." I tried converting the text to outlines in Photoshop so that it was no longer text, http://en.allexperts.com/q/Microsoft-Word-1058/2009/5/CAPTIONS.htm but the error message/caption still showed up. Now every time I insert a picture in Word, I get the same message/caption and there isn't even any text in these pictures. How do I stop error no the error message from appearing? Thanks for any advice you can give me. -- CandyJ CandyJ, Jan 5, 2006 #1 Advertisements Suzanne S. Barnhill Guest Your caption is evidently trying to insert a "chapter number," but you haven't applied to any of the text in the document the heading style Word has been told to look to for the chapter number. -- Suzanne S. that are driving me crazy, but I don’t see a single reference to them in any of the books.!! 1st case-I have a multi-page document with a chapter title, using Heading 1 style. On the 2nd page I start with Insert>Reference>Caption, choose Illustration as the label, and check the Chapter number check box. The result is Illustrattion 1-1, as expected. I then proceed to use other captions such as Figure and Table, and all captions appear as desired. But when I get to page 7, where I want to use the Illustration caption again, I get a result that varies from one trial to another (i.e., I might close the document and then re-open at another time or another day). One time the result is Illustration 0-1 (although the first Illustration caption is still in good shape as Illustration 1-1) and another time the caption of the second caption shows: Error! No text of specified style in document. 2 2nd case- Just to see what happens in an entirely blank document, I create the chapter title with Heading 1 style, use the Insert>Reference>Caption route to label an item and try different labels. The Page and Figure labels show the proper caption but the Illustration and Table labels result in the captions : Illustration Error! No text of specified style in document. 1 Table Error! No text of specified style in document. 1 What in the world is going on? Can you provide a solution? Making captions manually is one answer, but then I might as well use a typewriter (my joke) I look forward to your reply. Chris AnswerI don't have much experience with the Caption feature because I rarely create documents with numbered captions, but it certainly sounds like you're doing everything correctly. The only reasons I can think of for the situation you describe would be (a) some style other than Heading 1 is selected as the "Chapter number" in the Caption Numbering dialog, or (b) there is no Heading 1 paragraph preceding the location of the caption. Another thing to check on (though this would not give the error message you're seeing) i
