If I try to save directly it either (a) proceeds & looks like success but does not actually create the file (for example in Mail.app), or (b) pops up a message saying "Document [name] could not be saved" (e.g. in Preview). It seems that the issue is with the way applications access the disk - the issue is not specific https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5574554?tstart=0 to Mail and does not appear to affect Finder itself.I've run a disk permissions repair, I've changed my network MAC addresses (based off information here: http://support.iawriter.com/help/discussions/mac-problems/33-unable-to-save-any- file-os-x-1068), I've restarted Finder (hold option, right click icon in Dock and choose "Relaunch"), I've tried to lots of different folders within my home directory. The work-around that did work was to duplicate the file in Preview (unfortunately won't help in Mail) and choose to rename/save it from the title bar (https://www.dropbox.com/s/p5qfk1ys07g9ol5/Screenshot%202013-11-19%2012.19.14.png). That kicked Preview in the pants and for now it repeatedly saves documents & creates new folders from the save dialog without troubles. This will revert though - it's not the first time I've had this behaviour (previously I created the folders manually to workaround it).Good luck Fabio! Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance. Didn't work. Any other ideas? –Vladimir Nabokov Jul 18 at 15:19 Does the physical file actually exist in specified path and can you open it directly? Your use of break might be a concern. Try printing, print(att.FileName), just after or before SaveAsFile() to see if att is correct attachment. –Parfait Jul 18 at 17:10 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote take a look at this question. an attachment from Postbox, it could be trying to use an old version of the associated application. The error could state: "[the attachment] could not be opened, because an unknown error occurred. Try saving to disk first and then opening the file." Here's how to resolve this issue: On Mac: Go to Postbox | Preferences | Attachments On Window: Go to Tools | Options | Attachments Then, find the content type that's causing the error (.doc, .pdf, etc.), and choose the correct application in the Action column. Even if it looks to be correct, the application needs to be re-selected.
