Unfortunately, probably you will rc.exe download windows 7 get some trouble as I did. I collected three "confusing" errors here. Error spawning ‘rc.exe' Work-around:
Rc.exe Not Found
use Windows SDK Configuration Tool to change the headers/libs that Visual Studio 2008 refers to v6.0A. Error1fatal error LNK1181: cannot open input file ‘kernel32.lib' Work-around: use Windows SDK Configuration Tool to change the headers/libs that Visual Studio 2008 refers to v6.0A. Error result 1 returned from ‘c:\program files\Microsoft SDKs\windows\v6.0A\bin\rc.exe' Work-around: turn off "Incremental Linking" I am not sure if there are other scenarios which caused these errors. Just for my experience, because my computer was installed with Windows SDK partially.

I Checked the Debug folder and there is no Test1 executable. Whats wrong. Thanks for great forum!Tim Monday, March 31, 2008 8:58 PM All replies 0 Sign in to vote I have the exact issue.I have searched my https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/0c2ea8d2-954a-47c3-afc9-af669c04dcf4/error-spawning-rcexe?forum=devdocs entire computer, and rc.exe does not exist anywhere on my system, which is, I believe, what is needed in order for the system to create the .EXE file. Not sure if it matters, however, I am running a 90-Day trial of Visual Studio 2008.I also have re-installed VS 08 multiple times with AV turned off, still no luck.... Wednesday, October 29, 2008 11:35 AM 1 Sign in to vote This is probably because rc.exe is not in your path Search your drive for rc.exe and add that location to your path, then restart Visual Studio. I personally was able to find rc.exe in these paths; C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\Common\MSDev98\Bin C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\VB98\Wizards C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\Tools\Bin C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\VC\bin If you don't have it, try installing the Windows Platform SDKCollin Sauve Proposed as answer by Collin Sauve Tuesday, October 20, 2009 8:05 PM Tuesday, October 20, 2009 8:04 PM 6 Sign in to vote I solved this problem by extracting the WCU\WinSDK\WinSDK_W32Tools.exethat located in the DVD or ISO with 7.Zip and then launch the VistaClientWin32Tools-x86.msi and install the contents. This will replace files in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\Bin folder. Hope this will help some one that have this problem.+_cautionsign+_ Proposed as answer by InTheBlue Saturday, February 19, 2011

Does anyone know how to fix this? The "mt.exe" and "rc.exe" comes from "bin" directory in there. Those paths should be set automatically when you installed the Windows SDK. You can try to run "SetEnv.cmd" batch file, that is also located in the "bin" folder of Microsoft Windows SDK, which should set all the needed paths. Thanked by: Columbia42 orb View Public Profile Find More Posts by orb View Blog 06-22-2010, 12:39 AM #3 Columbia42 Orbinaut I ran SetEnv.cmd and it didn't fix the problem. It might be worth mentioning that I just reinstalled Microsoft Windows SDK and since then this problem has occured. Before that everything worked fine. Columbia4

My background is using Visual Studio 2005 about a year ago. This is a fresh install of 2008 and this is the first time I've tried using it. I already uninstalled 2005, so I can't try doing a tutorial on there. here is what the error message says when I try to compile: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1>------ Build started: Project: onlineTest, Configuration: Debug Win32 ------ 1>Compiling... 1>testing.cpp 1>Compiling manifest to resources... 1>Project : error PRJ0003 : Error spawning 'rc.exe'. 1>Build log was saved at "file://j:\onlineTest\onlineTest\Debug\BuildLog.htm" 1>onlineTest - 1 error(s), 0 warning(s) ========== Build: 0 succeeded, 1 failed, 0 up-to-date, 0 skipped ========== ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I tried following to make the "Hello World" program -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. The first time you start up, choose the Visual C++ environment. 2. Start a new project in .net from the "File" menu by choosing "New" , then "Project" to get a choice of project types. 3. Under "Visual C++" highlight "Win32" and under Templates, choose "Win32 Console Application" and below enter a "Name" . Click "OK" 4. In the "Application Wizard" screen, in the left column, choose "Application Settings" ("Overview" may be highlighted) and check "Console application" and "Empty project" . Click "Finish" Now under "Project" in menu, choose "Add New Item" or "Add Existing Item" for your code or data files and enter a file name. An alternative, perhaps easier way, is to right click "Source Files" or "Header Files" or "Resource Files" and use "Add" . From the "Build" menu, compile and link your code using "Build ProjectName" . Execute ( "Start Without Debugging" ) from the "Debug" menu. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have also tried other resources and online videos and nothing works. All I did was install Visual Studio, it was pretty easy, but
