I Checked the Debug folder and there is no Test1 executable. Whats wrong. Thanks for great forum!Tim Monday, March 31, 2008 8:58 PM All replies 0 Sign in to vote I have the exact issue.I https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/0c2ea8d2-954a-47c3-afc9-af669c04dcf4/error-spawning-rcexe?forum=devdocs have searched my entire computer, and rc.exe does not exist anywhere on my system, which is, I believe, what is needed in order for the system to create the .EXE file. Not sure if it matters, however, I am running a 90-Day trial of Visual Studio 2008.I also have re-installed VS 08 multiple times with AV turned off, still no luck.... Wednesday, October 29, 2008 11:35 AM 1 Sign in to vote This is probably because rc.exe is not in your path Search your drive for rc.exe and add that location to your path, then restart Visual Studio. I personally was able to find rc.exe in these paths; C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\Common\MSDev98\Bin C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\VB98\Wizards C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\Tools\Bin C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\VC\bin If you don't have it, try installing the Windows Platform SDKCollin Sauve Proposed as answer by Collin Sauve Tuesday, October 20, 2009 8:05 PM Tuesday, October 20, 2009 8:04 PM 6 Sign in to vote I solved this problem by extracting the WCU\WinSDK\WinSDK_W32Tools.exethat located in the DVD or ISO with 7.Zip and then launch the VistaClientWin32Tools-x86.msi and install the contents. This will replace files in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\Bin folder. Hope this will help some one that have this problem.+_cautionsign+_ Proposed as answer by InTheB

Does anyone know how to fix this? The "mt.exe" and "rc.exe" comes from "bin" directory in there. Those paths should be set automatically when you installed the Windows SDK. You can try to run "SetEnv.cmd" batch file, that is also located in the "bin" folder of Microsoft Windows SDK, which should set all the needed paths. Thanked by: Columbia42 orb View Public Profile Find More Posts by orb View Blog 06-22-2010, 12:39 AM #3 Columbia42 Orbinaut I ran SetEnv.cmd and it didn't fix the problem. It might be worth mentioning that I just reinstalled Microsoft Windows SDK and since then this problem has occured. Before that everything worked fine. Columbia42 Vie

The problem is normally fixed just by restarting your system. All tho the re-install did put the rc.exe in the path. So, as i mentioned breifly before i installed DDK & SDK. i uninstalled SDK and now it is working! It compiles! I think the SDK placed some settings in the environment that might have messed things up. Just thought id let you lot know. Cheers, 12-13-2007
