Error Windows Could Not Properly Load The Thai Keyboard Layout
Chen - MSFTJuly 22, 200814 0 0 0 In my rôle as the family technical support department, I get to poke around without really knowing what I'm doing and hope to stumble across a solution. Sometimes I succeed; sometimes I fail. Today, I'm documenting one of my successes in the hope that it might come in handy for you, the technical support department for your family. (If not, then I guess today is not your day.) The boot drive on the laptop belonging to one of my relatives became corrupted, and her brother-in-law had the honor of extracting the drive, sticking it into a working computer, doing the chkdsk magic, reinstalling the software that got corrupted, and otherwise getting the machine back on its feet. (It's a good thing I wasn't the one to do it because all of the programs are in Chinese, and I can't read Chinese beyond a few dozen characters.) Anyway, the machine returned to life, mostly. The bizarro proprietary hardware (that a certain manufacturer insists on using in order to make their machines special) still doesn't have drivers, but it was happy for the most part. There was just one problem remaining, and it fell upon me to fix it: She couldn't type Chinese characters any more. Normally, this is done by selecting an appropriate IME, but no matter what we picked, it was as if we were always using the US-English keyboard. One clue was that if you deleted the IME and then re-added it, you got the error message Windows could not properly load the XYZ keyboard layout. Here is how I fixed it. (This was a WindowsXP machine.) Maybe it will help you, maybe not. First, go to the Regional and Language Options control panel and set everything back to English (US): On the Advanced tab, under "Select a language to match the language version of the non-Unicode programs you want to use", select "English (United States)". On the Languages tab, under "Text services and input languages", click the Details button. Change your default input language to "English (United States) - US" and remove all the non-English keyboard layouts. Restart to
2006 by johnstewien It's one of those days. The chinese phonetic keyboard input stopped working on one of my PCs. Got the message "Windows could not properly load Chinese Phonetic 2002a Keyboard Layout". I came up with a fix eventually, but if you find a better solution please leave a comment as I seem to be getting a lot of hits on this entry. Also I wouldn't mind knowing why this problem suddenly occurred. https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/oldnewthing/20080722-00/?p=21523 Uninstalled languages, then reinstalled languages - didn't fix it. Ran a check disk - didn't fix it. Reinstalled Windows XP doing a repair install. Then installed 74 patches. - didn't fix it. What the hell?!? Looked on the net for a solution, saw that other people had the same problem with other https://johnstewien.wordpress.com/2006/11/15/windows-could-not-properly-load-keyboard-layout/ languages, but found no solution. A clue though was that "IME" or "Input Method Editor" was to blame. Ok, getting closer. Searched on http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/ for "IME" saw a few downloads, but I installed the "Microsoft Office IME 2003: Microsoft New Phonetic IME, Microsoft New ChangJie IME" from here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=f2a55210-4cc1-4040-b710-625a45f2594d&DisplayLang=en and the used the New Phonetic IME. This download updates the IME for use with Office 2003, but whatever it does, it fixed the problem. That fixed the problem. I still don't know what caused the problem though. Update: I notice people are hitting this web page after looking for "couldn't load microsoft new phonetic ime 2002a" so I'm just adding this line here to help them find this tip. "Can't load microsoft new phonetic ime 2002a" also seems popular. Like this:Like Loading... Related This entry was posted in Uncategorized.
