I'm new to programming electronics but I'm having an absolutely fantastic time on my Arduino Uno...as you can see on my Arduino Beginner YouTube channel linked below :-) Re: exit status 1 #5 Feb 19, 2016, 11:09 am Quote from: Chagrin on Dec 22, 2015, 05:10 pmIf you're using the Arduino IDE you should set your Preferences to verbose output for compile and upload. A description of the exact error will be present.^^^ Excellent tip, many thanks. I was getting the same exit status 1 error but changing the preferences as you suggested led me straight to the error in my code. It's also nice to see a detail about what exactly is happening during verify and compile. Kudos to you :-)Every day's a school day...PeaceSK Wrightjk284 Newbie Posts: 3 Karma: 0[add] Re: exit status 1 #6 Feb 20, 2016, 02:26 pm I have the same problem - I am trying to get the Trinket to work a servo and am not sure what part of the coder is wrong. Like 127 exit status indicates "command not found". I have visited http://linux.die.net/abs-guide/exitcodes.html page, does it mean exit status 1 does not have particular special meaning. linux command exitstatus share|improve this question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/20965762/meaning-of-exit-status-1-retured-by-linux-command asked Jan 7 '14 at 7:01 user2664054 11114 The ABS link is confused. These exit codes are not "reserved" and the table is a happy drunk mixture of Bash-internal usage, general Unix conventions, and the author's loud opinion. –tripleee Jan 7 '14 at 7:45 See also now stackoverflow.com/questions/36530696/… –tripleee Apr 12 at 7:34 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 6 down vote The only general convention is that a zero exit status signifies success, whereas any non-zero exit status is a failure. Many -- but certainly not all -- command-line tools return exit code 1 for syntax error, i.e. you had too few arguments or an invalid option. Many -- but, alas, not all -- command-line tools have a manual page. By convention, it should document the exit codes of the program, but many do not. share|improve this answer answered Jan 7 '14 at 7:37 tripleee 60.1k759116 add a comment| up vote 1 down vote You can see the value of the exit status using man.
