I've installed BackupPC via Synaptic on the box with the most file space, following the instructions in "The Official Ubuntu Server Book." Initially, I'm only backing up "/etc" from the three Xubuntu boxes, using tar as the Xfer method. However, it's not working. Here's the complete error log from the most recent attempt at localhost: Code: Running: /usr/bin/ssh -q -x -n -l backuppc localhost sudo env LC_ALL=C /bin/tar -c -v -f - -C /etc --totals --newer=2010-06-27 08:56:28 . incr backup started back to 2010-06-27 08:56:28 (backup #0) for directory /etc Xfer PIDs are now 26333,26332 Tar exited with error 65280 () status tarExtract: Done: 0 errors, 0 filesExist, 0 sizeExist, 0 sizeExistComp, 0 filesTotal, 0 sizeTotal Got fatal error during xfer (Tar exited with error 65280 ()
error 65280 () status)has already been discussed here ad nauseam, but I'm still unable to finda solution to my problem.First some boring background information you may skip.. :) I recentlyinstalled backuppc on several of http://backuppc-users.narkive.com/awijlio0/another-tar-exited-with-error-65280-status-problem our systems on the local network, someof which run on Windows XP, some https://adsm.org/lists/html/BackupPC-users/2008-04/msg00022.html Windows 2000 and several on DebianLinux. Both full and incremental backups work like a charm. So far sogood. Encouraged by the success of the installation I wanted to starttaking backups of two remotely located Debian Linux servers - currentlythey are backed up nightly as a single (huge) .tar.gz package with scp,but this is exit code really getting annoying as it consumes bandwidthexcessively, especially since most of the files change quiteinfrequently. Of course, backuppc seemed like the obvious choice. Here's where things go bad. The remote backups almost never work. Thebackups always run for a while, so some of the files get transferred, but eventually (seems to be at some random file) the process getsinterrupted and the transfer aborts. For no apparent reason. exit code 65280 Theconnection shows no problems, and our 'manual' full backups almost neverfail. If I try to back up a smaller portion of the files (say, only thedirectory /etc), the backup succeeds. But naturally I'd like all of thedata to be backed up :).So, any ideas on what might be the cause of this, and how to fix thesituation? I've tried setting $Conf{ClientTimeout} to 86400, whichshould be sufficient, but it didn't have any effect on the outcome. Onesolution (that would require changes to backuppc) would be the abilityfor backuppc to resume interrupted and/or failed backups, but I don'tknow if the implementation is feasible.Regards,Marko TukiainenI've attached a portion of a sample XferLOG.bad below:Running: /usr/bin/ssh -q -n -l root www.SITE_NAME_PROTECTED.com /bin/tar-c -v -f - -C / --totals --exclude=templates_c --exclude=cache--exclude=Cache ./etc ./homeXfer PIDs are now 27514,27513[ skipped 19538 lines ]tarExtract: Unexpected end of tar archive (tot = 1048576, num = 543744,posn = )tarExtract: Unexpected end of tar archive during readRead from remote host www.SITE_NAME_PROTECTED.com: Connection timed outTar exited with error 65280 () statustarExtract: Done: 2 errors, 19089 filesExist, 929831755 sizeExist,266309866 sizeExistComp, 19398 filesTotal, 948000279 sizeTotal Carl Wilhelm Soderstrom 2003-12-04 10:06:07 UTC PermalinkRaw Message Post by Marko TukiainenHere's where things g
