Lenovo T440p Fan Error
X31 type 2672 CEG I started my TP today eve, and first sounds of fan told me something was strange. after 2 seconds of strange noise an error line appeared left above in corner of LCD> FAN ERROR nothing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0GjCHVV4Mk else no further booting. afer some 3 seconds TP turned off. I waited some 5 seconds and started again> now old known sounds came, and system was awaken from hibernation. fine. fan is working now. just to mention: my TP is 3,5 years of age, and various types of sounds of fan, depending on position of my TP { horizontal, vertical etc} tell me that its golden age might be already over. with today's error I can presume http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=43046 that I soon will be changing fan for a new one. I seems my fan has loose bearings/axe. had anyone similar symptoms and how was the next near future? fan crash by boot? thx for info. _________________IBM X31 Type 2672-CEG 1.4 GHz, 1.25 GB RAM, 8MB7k100Hitachi, Bluetooth, Intel WiFi B, WinXP Top Profile Reply with quote gator Post subject: PostPosted: Wed May 23, 2007 4:12 pm Offline Moderator Joined: Thu Aug 17, 2006 2:28 am Posts: 3401 Location: Gainesville, FL I think I hve a spare X31 fan. Do you think the fan is replacable by a single user operation or it needs a HI TECH person with all the gadgets? And what about the price and condition? thx. _________________IBM X31 Type 2672-CEG1.4 GHz, 1.25 GB RAM, 8MB7k100Hitachi, Bluetooth, Intel WiFi B, WinXP Top Profile Reply with quote normanrich Post subject: Fan Isn't That HardPostPosted: Mon May 28, 2007 8:01 pm Offline Joined: Thu Mar 15, 2007 2:48 pm Posts: 28 Location: W

All the status lights come on but the machine does boot. I usually need to try starting it several times in order to get the machine running. Is there an easy fix for this? I have this question too 0 Kudos Reply rkawakami Community Moderator Posts: 196 Registered: 11-20-2007 Location: San Jose, CA USA Message 2 of 2 (2,008 Views) Re: Fan Error - T23 Options Mark as New Bookmark Subscribe Subscribe to RSS Feed Highlight Print Email to a Friend Report Inappropriate Content 05-15-2008 07:23 PM If it so
For Windows 3 Hardware specs 3.1 Fan Tachometer 3.2 Automatic mode 3.3 Manual mode 3.4 Disengaged (full-speed) mode 4 Supported models 5 Models using a different interface 6 Unsupported models ATTENTION! When designing fan-control applets, never ignore a valid thermal sensor. Even if it seems to be stuck at a certain temperature, you must take that sensor into account. While it will probably make the fan spin faster than if the sensor was ignored, that's exactly what would happen when the fan is under EC control, and could very well be the reason for the "stuck" value in the first place. Always play it safe. If a battery pack seems to want the fan to always run faster, the only safe thing to do is to make it run faster. For Linux NOTE! Fan control operations are disabled by default for safety reasons. To enable fan control, the module parameter fan_control=1 must be given to thinkpad-acpi. For example, in Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron), add the following to /etc/modprobe.d/options: options thinkpad_acpi fan_control=1 For Debian Squeeze (testing) create /etc/modprobe.d/thinkpad_acpi.conf with: options thinkpad_acpi fan_control=1 and install the package thinkfan Having done so, reboot and you can use the following commands to control fan speed: # echo level 0 > /proc/acpi/ibm/fan (fan off) # echo level 2 > /proc/acpi/ibm/fan (low speed) # echo level 4 > /proc/acpi/ibm/fan (medium speed) # echo level 7 > /proc/acpi/ibm/fan (maximum speed) # echo level auto > /proc/acpi/ibm/fan (automatic - default) # echo level disengaged > /proc/acpi/ibm/fan (disengaged) If you receive a PERMISSION DENIED error you can use the following command syntax instead as a work-around: # echo level 0 | sudo tee /proc/acpi/ibm/fan (fan off) # echo level 2 | sudo tee /proc/acpi/ibm/fan (low speed) # echo level 4 | sudo tee /proc/acpi/ibm/fan (medium speed) # echo level 7 | sudo tee /proc/acpi/ibm/fan (maximum speed) # echo level auto | sudo tee /proc/acpi/ibm/fan (automatic - default) # echo level disengaged | sudo tee /proc/acpi/ibm/fan (disengaged) Automated control scripts An ACPI fan control script can be used to override the firmware's fan algorithm with gentler, quieter version. It monitors the laptop's thermal sensors and sets the fan speed accordingly, according to customizable thresholds. For the default behavior, simply save tp-fancontrol (download) as tp-fancontrol, make sure you've loaded thin
