Simply blow air from you're mouth into the left side where the fan exhaust is. Could hear the fan moving and dust came out of laptop. Just blow very hard into it, worked for me. Uploaded on Nov 12, 2011Jump starts the fan.Update Nov 16th 2013.You blow into the fan while its starting up immediately after turning on the laptop.Update July 15, 2015:Thanks to Paul S for getting further into the bottom of the cause of this fan error. His comment is listed in the comments section. Please give him a like. Basically the reason this fan error occurs is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXTLKh2ChLM because the computer is detecting that the RPM of the fan is not high enough during start up. This causes the computer to shut down. By blowing into the fan, you're allowing the hall effect sensor in the fan to detect the minimum required rotations per minute for the fan by manually making it spin with blown in air. ProductsHomearound the homeproductivityHow to Fix an IBM ThinkPad Fan ErrorHow to Fix an IBM ThinkPad Fan ErrorBy Richard KalinowskiIf your IBM ThinkPad laptop turns black and displays "fan error," this means your CPU fan malfunctioned. To fix the fan error, you must address the underlying cause. You can't just reboot the system and hope for the best. You must take this problem very seriously. Without a functioning fan, your computer's processor could overheat and become damaged in a matter of minutes. Fortunately, with some proactive fan cleaning, you can get the fan working again, resolving the error message and any potential processor damage.Things You'll NeedCompressed airRubbing alcoholCotton swabsStep 1Turn off your IBM ThinkPad.Step 2Unplug your ThinkPad from the wall outlet. Remove the battery from the laptop.Step 3Tilt the ThinkPad so you can see its left edge clearly. You will notice a series of small vents. These vents are used for CPU fan exhaust.Step 4Dip a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol.Step 5Swab away any external dust or dirt from the fan vents. Avoid pushing the cotton swab completely through the vents. Over time, a ThinkPad's fan vents can accumulate a lot of debris that is difficult to remove without an alcohol-based cleanser.Step 6Blow compressed air into the vents to remove any remaining dust or blockage. Sometimes the fan stops working simply because of accumulated dusty buildup.Step 7Plug in your ThinkPad, reattach the battery and boot up the system. If the fan is still not working, your computer will be unable to boot, displaying yet another "fan error" message. If the fan is not clogged, the fan error is due to fan assembly malfunction. According to Inside My Laptop, you will need to replace the entire fan assembly.Tips & WarningsIt's best to have a professional replace your fan assembly, as it requires removing the keyboard and accessing the computer's motherboard. The motherboard is the lifeblood of your computer; if you accidentally damage any microchips, circuits or wires connected to the motherboard, you can destroy the entire computer.References & ResourcesInside My Laptop: IBM ThinkPad Laptop Displays Fan Error Message on BootupRelatedIs Your Password Safe Enough?Productivity8 Tech-Savvy Movies to Watch With Your KidsEntertainmentThree Social Media Sites You Might Not Know AboutProductivityHow to Improve the Wi-Fi Strength in Your Home or OfficeProductivityWhat Is the Function of RAM in a Computer?ProductivityHOW WE SCOREABOUT USCONTACT USTERMS OF USEPRIVACY POLICY©2016 Demand
