It is not an error and should be ignored by the user. In this case an upload command has already been ftp error 550 access is denied given butbefore the upload can be started CuteFTP needs it determine whether or not thefile being transferred already exists on the remote site as either a file or a folder. First, the SIZE command is sent in an attempt to determine if a file with the same name exists on the remote site. The server responds with a 550 indicating that thefile does not already exist there. Next, the CWD command is sent in an attempt to determine if a folder with the same name exists on the remote site. The server responds with a 550 indicating that a folder by that name does not exist. Finally, the STOR command is given and the file uploadbegins. Example 2: Afile upload is being attempted but the remote server has denied the needed permission. commands that arrive while a preceding command is in progress.) This type of reply can be used to indicate that the

command was accepted and the user-process may now pay attention to the data connections, for implementations where simultaneous monitoring is difficult. The server-FTP process may send at most, one 1xx reply per command. 2xx Positive https://kb.globalscape.com/KnowledgebaseArticle10305.aspx Completion reply The requested action has been successfully completed. A new request may be initiated. 3xx Positive Intermediate reply The command has been accepted, but the requested action is being held in abeyance, pending receipt of further information. The user should send another command specifying this information. This reply is used in command sequence groups. 4xx Transient Negative Completion reply The command was not accepted and the requested action https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_FTP_server_return_codes did not take place, but the error condition is temporary and the action may be requested again. The user should return to the beginning of the command sequence, if any. It is difficult to assign a meaning to "transient", particularly when two distinct sites (Server- and User-processes) have to agree on the interpretation. Each reply in the 4xx category might have a slightly different time value, but the intent is that the user-process is encouraged to try again. A rule of thumb in determining if a reply fits into the 4xx or the 5xx (Permanent Negative) category is that replies are 4xx if the commands can be repeated without any change in command form or in properties of the User or Server (e.g., the command is spelled the same with the same arguments used; the user does not change his file access or user name; the server does not put up a new implementation.) 5xx Permanent Negative Completion reply The command was not accepted and the requested action did not take place. The User-process is discouraged from repeating the exact request (in the same sequence). Even some "permanent" error conditions can be corrected, so the human user may want to direct his User-process to reinitiate the co

A few days ago I changed some settings on the server regarding ssl and imap settings, but I don't think this has affected the FTP settings ... Anyhow, after long googling nothing seems to work. The main idea could be that the user hasn't got permissions, but the interesting thing is that I can: create files delete files delete directories But not creating directories. I get the error "550 Permission denied" in the main directory and "550 access_log: No such file or directory" in the subdirectory. Anyone knows where the error could be? I switched to an SSH/SFTP connection and that fixed it. share|improve this answer answered Sep 18 '14 at 19:03 Kozy 1211 add a comment| up vote -1 down vote Assuming you are on Linux, Go up one directory, and see if the user has permissions there. For example: Try setting the permissions on the directory to 777. If it works you know you have a problem with the permissions. DO NOT leave the directory at 777, it is not secure, just for quick testing. 755 is usually appropriate if you have everything set up correctly. You can also try adding the user to the group that owns the directory (you can do this through ls -l). This will tell you what user owns that. share|improve this answer edited Aug 22 '14 at 11:54 answered May 25 '14 at 2:54 David Eisen 495215 1 For a directory 644 would be a bad mode, since it lacks x and the directory cannot be entered! –Janne Pikkarainen Aug 22 '14 at 5:45 You
