There is a Wiki on Network Configuration ftp passive mode that covers this information, however, it is written in such a way that the “layman” may have difficulty understanding what’s going on—and it doesn’t show exactly how to fix the 425 ftp error 500 error code—so this Wiki will give instructions on how to set up your specific router. ”Abstract”[edit] This Wiki will go over the common technical reason(s) for error 425 being given after the FZS sends the 227 Passive command to the FTP client—regardless of what client is being used. technical Wiki is desired refer to the Network Configuration article. Narrative[edit] So, you've set up your FZS and it works for a local connection in your home, BUT you want to make your Local FTP Server accessible when you’re away—and you want to use encryption (SSL/TLS) to do so. You set up a Dynamic DNS (DynDNS) service to point to your FZS via your external IP address (don’t worry I’ll explain later in the Wiki). You’ve followed a how-to on setting up FZS to use SSL/TLS, but you've run into an issue—and after looking at the FZS Log you see the problem—right after the "227 Passive command" is given and acknowledged you see a 425 error. But even after summoning a Warlock, a Witch, and a Unicorn—you can’t fix it and wind up here reading this Wiki. The Problem[edit] More than likely the problem is that your FZS is requesting the FTP Client to use the Passive Ports defined in the FZS settings. And even though you’ve changed the settings in your Windows 7 or 8 Firewall you still can’t get your FTP Client to connec

Mostly same letters, same goal. Different architecture. It is a bit like tagging a question with [benzine/gas] and [diesel] and stating "I have a problem with my fuel". Could you narrow it down? –Hennes Sep 6 at 12:26 Also, I read 'when trying to connect' as on the initial connection attempt (e.g. when you might issue user, pass, capabilities etc etc). Not after connecting and issuing and get/put/ls or similar command. Is that correct? –Hennes Sep 6 at 12:27 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote Assuming the user/password dialog is successful and you are attempting the GET command, then you get the "Failed to Establish Connection" whiney message, perhaps it is the ftp port number. Sometimes ftp passive ports are range limited, such as using ports 5000-5999. This can be done within your or their router. Either get both ftp's using the same passive port range, or include the command "PASSIVE" within your ftp command dialog. This passive port limit might be set in /etc/vsftpd/vsftpd.conf pasv_min_port=5000 pasv_max_port=5999 pasv_enable=YES share|improve this answer edited Nov 16 '13 at 0:34 Jawa 2,81582032 answered Nov 16 '13 at 0:12 Bill Watson 1 add a comment| up vote -1 down vote According to an answer on superuser, the problem is that something on the way from you to your
