It was working fine about a month ago. Now I am seeing this error frequently (once every a few ftp error 426 iseries seconds to once every few minutes).- The server is behind a firewall and uses passive mode.- These are large data files.- The connection is 100 Mbps and the transfer rate ranges from 100KB to 5 MB. Higher speed appears to suffer from more frequent disconnect.Below is the log. Any hint on how to troubleshoot? Thanks> 227 Entering Passive

Everyday in the early morning, a script on another server (S2) will run and initiate FTP transfer of pulling log files from S1 to S2. The FTP client we're using is built-in FTP.exe in Windows 2000 on S2. Recently we replaced S1 with a new server however we kept the IP address. There are multiple IP addresses on new S1. Ever since the new S1 was http://serverfault.com/questions/127906/iis-ftp-error-426-connection-closed-transfer-aborted in place, the '426 Connection closed; transfer aborted.' errors haven been occuring randomly. The log indicated that the transfer started ok however the file cannot be transferred completely, as per log below: mget access*.log 200 Type set to A. 200 PORT command successful. 150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for access02232010.log(205777167 bytes). 426 Connection closed; transfer aborted. ftp: 20454832 bytes received in 283.95Seconds 72.04Kbytes/sec. The firewall monitor suggested that the connection was setup in passive mode however I've been told that MS FTP.exe doesn't support passive mode. Though I can see the response of 'entering passive mode' from server when typing in 'quote pasv'. My network admin has told me to try the transfer in active mode however I don't know how to open active mode on client side. It's getting really frustrating. Wish someone here has the right knowledge/experience could shed me a light. Here are some info: I can establish the connection, change directory, transfer a file from FTP server to the client. Both port 21 and 20 is allowed through the firewalls and eventually reach the FTP server. Server is filezilla, client is either windows ftp client of WinSCP. (same error) As you can see on the picture, the server is sending ftp error 426 a RST packet but I have no idea why. Also, this appears to work intermittently (once in last 7 days) Can anyone see what is wrong with this picture? What would make an FTP server reset the connection? ftp wireshark share|improve this question asked May 18 at 18:14 user2629636 327721 add a comment| active oldest votes Know someone who can answer? » FTP Status and Error Codes FTP Status and Error Codes Last Year GlobalSCAPE 5 CuteFTP for Windows THE INFORMATION IN THIS ARTICLE APPLIES TO: EFT Server all versions CuteFTP® all versions DISCUSSION During FTP sessions, servers send and receive various numbered codes to/from FTP clients. Some codes represent errors, most others simply communicate the status of the connection. Below are brief explanations for the most common status and error codes. When determining a course of action, review the entire log; some codes are informational only, others indicate that you have entered the wrong information, and others indicate what the information is that you need to provide before continuing. For troubleshooting CuteFTP connection problems, also refer to Troubleshooting CuteFTP Connection Problems. The table below is provided so that you have some idea whether you can solve the issue on your own (e.g., code 331=you need to provide a password) or you need to call your ISP for assistance (e.g., code 426=you are unable to connect to the remote server). These codes are used by most FTP servers/clients. NOTE: The information below is only offered as a courtesy to assist you in telling your Internet Service Provider what the error is so that they can help solve your issue. For example, if you get a code 426, the transfer was aborted and the connection closed. The solution to this error is to "try logging back in; contact your hosting provider to check if you need to increase your hosting account; try disabling the firewall on your PC to see if that solves the problem. If not, contact your hosting provider or ISP." The list below contains standard FTP codes. Numbers outside this list are proprietary to the Server or Client that you are using.
