closed; transfer aborted Description Question/Problem: I'm receiving the message, "426 Connection closed; transfer aborted". The problem is I don't really understand what causes it or how to rectify https://forum.filezilla-project.org/viewtopic.php?t=34156 the situation. Product: WS_FTP Professional, WS_FTP Home Version: All Platform: All supported OS Solution Answer/Solution: See if you get the same error when you connect with the command line ftp client. If you do not get the error in the command line ftp client, then disable "Passive Mode" in the Connection properties window in WS_FTP. http://ipswitchft.force.com/kb/articles/FAQ/Error-426-Connection-closed-transfer-aborted-1307565960630 Go to a DOS prompt (Start->Programs->DOS Prompt) Connect to the site using the following syntax: ftp the.hostname.com (or IP_address.) Once successfully connected, you will be prompted for your username and password. Enter your username and password and then type "dir" to make sure that you successfully get a directory listing from the remote site. Once you get a directory listing, (and once you cd to the directory you want on the ftp server), to upload a file: put c:/local_path/filename (enter the exact path of the file that you want to upload here) to download a file from the ftp server: get filename (a file that you can see in the directory listing) If you get the same error in the command line ftp, then the problem is not in WS_FTP. There may be a local firewall blocking the connection or a problem with your ISP's network. Here are ftp error 426 some info: I can establish the connection, change directory, transfer a file from FTP server to the client. Both port 21 and 20 is allowed through the firewalls and eventually reach the FTP server. Server is filezilla, client is either windows ftp client of WinSCP. (same error) As you can see on the picture, the server is sending a RST packet but I have no idea why. Also, this appears to work intermittently (once in last 7 days) Can anyone see what is wrong with this picture? What would make an FTP server reset the connection? ftp wireshark share|improve this question asked May 18 at 18:14 user2629636 327721 add a comment| active oldest votes Know someone who can answer? good, bad or incomplete: Range Purpose 1xx Positive Preliminary reply The requested action is being initiated; expect another reply before proceeding with a new command. (The user-process sending another command before the completion reply would be in violation of protocol; but server-FTP processes should queue any commands that arrive while a preceding command is in progress.) This type of reply can be used to indicate that the command was accepted and the user-process may now pay attention to the data connections, for implementations where simultaneous monitoring is difficult. The server-FTP process may send at most, one 1xx reply per command. 2xx Positive Completion reply The requested action has been successfully completed. A new request may be initiated. 3xx Positive Intermediate reply The command has been accepted, but the requested action is being held in abeyance, pending receipt of further information. The user should send another command specifying this information. This reply is used in command sequence groups. 4xx Transient Negative Completion reply The command was not accepted and the requested action did not take place, but the error condition is temporary and the action may be requested again. The user should return to the beginning of the command sequence, if any. It is difficult to assign a meaning to "transient", particularly when two distinct sites (Server- and User-processes) have to agree on the interpretation. Each reply in the 4xx category might have a slightly different time value, but the intent is that the user-process is encouraged to try again. A rule of thumb in determining if a reply fits into the 4xx or the 5xx (Permanent Negative) category is that replies are 4xx if the commands can be repeated without any change in command form or in properties of the User or Server (e.g., the command is spelled the same with the same arguments used; the user does not change his file access or user name; the server does not put up a new implementation.) 5xx Permanent Negative Completion reply The command was not accepted and the requested action did not take place. The User-process is discouraged from repeating the exact request (in the same sequence). Even some "permanent" error conditions can be corrected, so the human user may want to direct his User-process to reinitiate the command sequence by direct action at some po
