The 553 error code is coming directly from the remote FTP server. The file name is not allowed. Many FTP servers have restrictions on file names. If your file name contains

special characters, symbols, or spaces in the file name, it might be rejected by the remote FTP server. In the example above, the file name was rejected because of a space. The remote FTP site may also be rejecting a particular file based on the file type or extension. RESOLUTION If your file name contains special characters, symbols, or spaces in the file name, you will need to rename it vsftpd error 553 before you can upload the file. Rename the file using only alpha-numeric characters and no spaces. For more information, see Best Practices for Naming Files. Hi i got problem with my ftp server(vsftpd). when i use `mput` or `put` command if i don't specify file name to be save i get this error "553 Could not create file." . i mean it doesn't use original file name automatically to save file on remote system. I did some search and find ntrans and nmap in man page of ftp command (i use ubuntu 12.04). but using them didn't work .maybe i use them in wrong way. Specifically the 2014.2 update. 2014.1 and all previous versions since the introduction of FTP upload worked just fine, but suddenly yesterday when a client noticed a typo on their site I started getting that error.
