Is it possible there are "system" https://discussion.dreamhost.com/thread-54892.html files within the directory that you are just not seeing? If you are using your ftp client to do this, make sure that you client is configured to show *all* files; many client by default will "supress" display of some system files (for example ".htaccess"). The best way to check to see if the directory is *really* empty, is to log to the shell, cd to the directory in question, and run "ls -la" - you may well find there *are* files left in the directory after all --rlparker 09-07-2006, 10:36 PM Post: #3 paradigmasoft Dreamling Posts: 5 Joined: Jan 2006 550 Server Nightmare Hi RL, I dont entirely understand your answer because I have been able to delete directories full of files without getting any warning from the server - for example, deleting the .old versions of joomla, phpbb, etc. Ive only gotten these errors beginning today. 09-08-2006, 12:22 AM Post: #4 rlparker DH DreamMaster! Like this : mdelete folder_name/* rmdir folder_name share|improve this answer answered Jun 10 '13 at 8:53 EcchiOli 422510 13 This only if there aren't sub-folders within folder_name –CJBS Sep 2 '14 at 18:55 Argh, you are right. –EcchiOli Oct 10 '14 at 21:50 add a comment| up vote 14 down vote If you've hidden files or folders on your server (for example .folder), you have to set the lftp list-options to "-a". So this worked for me: $ lftp -u user, pass server > set ftp:list-options -a > cd /folder/to/be/empty/ /folder/to/be/empty/> glob -a rm -r * share|improve this answer answered Nov 11 '12 at 9:58 philsch 518510 2 See also this answer on Serverfault.
