Your FTP account may be chrooted so that only part of the path is valid. –Marc B Mar 10 '11 at 21:16 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote With out knowing the directory structure (assuming that what you have is correct) Try this (please don't mod down if it doesn't work, I'm just saying try): CD /var/www/www.abc.com/public_html_files/public/files_feed/ STOR abc.zip There doesn't appear to be a problem with your syntax. So either the directory doesn't exist or your don't have access to the directory CHMOD 777 share|improve this answer answered Mar 10 '11 at 21:10 Dan Andrews 2,5541634 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service. It responds to ftp clients on another machine (openSuse 11.1) within the same subnet (192.168....) and delivers lists of directories, changes directories, etc. The clients (gftp, jftp, filezilla, dolphin--tried them all) are unable to upload to the server (after a successful log-in on the server as a user, not root) with an error message that seems to indicate an inability to open the file on the client machine. Also logged in as user on the client machine. From FileZilla: Command: STOR FCtinyLogo2.jpg Response: 553-Can't open that file: Permission denied Response: 553 Rename/move failure: No such file or directory What am I missing in permissions? The directory where the JPG is located belongs to the user who is signed in, its in his home directory. The users on the two machines are not the same. Thanks for any hints. Reply With Quote 2

I have previously used IE to access the ftp because I can go to ftp error an option which allows me to open the ftp as a folder like any other on my computer and I can just drag and drop into it. However this has stopped working. This is the first time I have attempted to upload to the ftp using my new laptop which is Windows 7. However I don't think it's anything to do with settings on the laptop as I also tried from ftp error 553 my husband's desktop which is XP. The error message I am getting is as follows: -------------------------------------- An error occurred copying a file to the FTP server. Make sure you have permission to put files on the server. Details: 200 TYPE is now 8-bit binary 227 entering passive mode (213,171,193,5,12,72) 553- Can't open that file-invalid argument 553 Rename/move failure: No such file/directory. ----------------------------------------- I emailed the support section of my provider but they didn't answer, and when I rang them today I was told to download FileZilla which I have done, and when I tried to upload using it, it has cancelled every file as they've opened in the queue, and for each it has said there is a critical error, and the details are the same. Also, the Support Guy blamed my network settings, and said that it is to do with my firewall, but my settings haven't changed at all since before, when I used to be able to do it by drag and drop through IE. Does anyone know what the problem may be and how to rectify it? mrs_buckley View Public Profile Visit mrs_buckley's homepage!
