I've just bought a new hosting plan and domain name about an ftp error an hour and a half ago from Hostgator, and they use CPanel. In CPanel I see my: - FTP username - FTP server - FTP & explicit FTPS port: 21 So I enter all of these into Dreamweaver's manage sites -> site name -> servers, then click "test", and I get the error "An FTP error occurred - cannot make connection host. The remote host cannot be found". Oh and if I type in my domain name in a browser, it'll say "server not found". Now is this because I'm doing something wrong, or is my website not even activated yet? I remember when I used Godaddy hosting, my website took around 24 hours to activate. Is this the same case with Hostgator? Oh and if I use Dreamweaver to upload/download stuff, am I supposed to place all the content of the website in public_html or public_ftp? Dreamweaver could not connect because the server is down or not accepting connections." This is the message I receive when trying to connect through FTP from Dreamweaver to hosting account. Share this conversation Expert: S. Philips replied6 years ago. There are various reasons as to why this may be happening. A firewall or an anti-virus program may be blocking the connection, the host itself may be temporarily down or Dreamweaver could be configured incorrectly. If you have norton antivirus, try disabling the "internet worm protection" feature and see if it works. In Dreamweaver, try the following:Go to Site>Manage Sites, make sure the site name is XXXXX XXXXX click Edit.Make sure the Advanced tab is selected, then click Remote Info in the Category list.If the Use Passive FTP check box is not checked, uncheck Use Secure FTP, check Use Passive FTP, then re-check Use Secure FTP.Click OK.I advise you to check if you can connect via FTP to your host using another program (such as cuteFTP or Filezilla). Also, if you used to connect with Dreamweaver and now you don't, please check what you have installed in between, so that we can p
