the server-side. The FTP user account does not have permission to either create a new file, or overwrite an existing file, in the current remote directory. The fix is on the http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10369571/ftp-550-access-is-denied-error server-side: either fix the directory permissions to allow the FTP user access, or fix the permissions of the FTP user so that it's possible, or both. It is impossible for Chilkat to provide specific help with server-side administration issues, especially because the solution depends on the operating system, the brand of FTP server, as well as all the complexities that may http://www.chilkatforum.com/questions/2081/reason-for-ftp-550-access-is-denied be involved regarding how the system might be configured/administered. The solution is really in the hands of the server's system administrator. link answered Jan 02 '13 at 09:35 chilkat ♦♦ 11.6k●316●358●418 Your answer toggle preview community wiki Follow this questionBy Email:Once you sign in you will be able to subscribe for any updates hereBy RSS: Answers Answers and Comments Markdown Basics *italic* or __italic__ **bold** or __bold__ link:[text](http://url.com/ "title") image?![alt text](/path/img.jpg "title") numbered list: 1. Development. Over the past couple of days I've been setting up a new box running Windows Server 2008 r2. One of the main requirements for it was that it should be able to accept file uploads via FTP. This http://biostall.com/iis-able-to-connect-via-ftp-but-cant-upload-files/ wasn't too much of a problem and seemed to be relatively easy… Install the IIS role, install the FTP service and setup an FTP site along with any associated users. All was going well and I was able to connect to the server remotely as a standard user with no problem at all. When I came to upload a file however I started to get the following error: 550 Access is denied The Solution After a bit ftp error of investigation I managed to solve the problem by following the steps below: 1. Open the ‘Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager'. You should be able to find this in your Start menu under ‘Administrative Tools'. 2. Once opened, right-click your FTP site and select ‘Edit Permissions…' from the menu: 3. Select the ‘Security' tab. 4. Click the ‘Users' group. You can see from the permissions shown underneath that by default this group doesn't have ‘Write' permissions: 5. ftp error 550 Click ‘Edit…' and select to allow the ‘Write' permission: 6. Click ‘OK' to save the changes. Once the above change has been performed you should now be able to successfully upload files without problem.
