I have transfered a file, listed directories, etc. Why is it that an FTP client cannot access it, yet I can via command prompt? I get this error every once in awhile, and I usually just ignore it and come back ftp error later, but now I'm curious. I've done multiple searches and can't find a FAQ or tutorial anywhere that discusses FTP errors in detail. Thanks. twn_magnum, Feb 24, 2001 #1 Mr. Fido Joined: Apr 3, 2001 Messages: 16 I have the same problem. I use CuteFTP and I get the following message: Failed to establish data socket. I've tried about 10 times already and I am always ftp error failed unsuccessful. One important fact: I'm home on a PC and I'm trying to hook up to a Macintosh server at the office. I'm told however that this shouldn't be a problem... Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you. Now it works perfectly. Mr. Fido, Jan 12, 2003 #3 vpn Joined: Sep 8, 2002 Messages: 123 when getting that error, which is a technical way of saying, "you got dissconnected from the server," either enable or disable passive mode, and that will fix the problem. every server config is different, some you may have to use it, some you may not have to. all depends on the server. vpn, Jan 12, 2003 #4 This thread has been Locked and is not open to further replies. Discussion in 'Networking' started by beyonddc, Apr 30, 2002. beyonddc Senior member Joined: May 17, 2001 Messages: 911 Likes Received: 0 Currently I setup a FTP server at home behind a Linksys router. I enabled port forwarding 20-21 to my server system. I asked 12 friends to logon to my server, and 10 of them got it inside. At the beginning, I thought it was their problem, because they might behind a firewall. Today is my first time trying to login to FTP server from work. I am using CuteFTP 4.2 and below is my LOG. I can't login to my home server. However, I can connect to other people server. That's why I am confused. I tried SmartFTP, EFTP and CuteFTP to get onto my home server at work, but all of them failed on me. Weird thing happened, when I use America Online 7.0 and use their FTP feature, I can login! I am hoping if anyone got any idea on what's going on. Thanks for reading my post! by the way, my passive mode in CuteFTP is enabled and I am using AT&T Cable Broadband at home.
