one was bought on godaddy. They're all hosted on hostinger. Any help? I don't know whats happening. the_loserkid 2014-08-07 14:38:12 UTC #2 The issue appears to have been resolved. When I used the ip address instead of the server username, it worked. Not sure why but replying just in case anybody has a similar issue. I am having this error occur when testing my remote server connection. Every once https://www.sitepoint.com/community/t/the-remote-host-cannot-be-found-dreamweaver/43985 in a while it works but usually it doesn't. I can connect to my site just fine on Filezilla. I have made sure of the following:confirmed the information I am inputting is correctchecked "use passive FTP"Under Server Compatibility, I've unchecked "Use FTP peformance optimization"My firewall is port 21 but Dreamweaver CS4 has been allowed (and turning the firewall off doesn't help)Any other suggestions? I've already scoured this site and others for solutions but https://forums.adobe.com/thread/851965 I haven't found anything beyond the items listed above. Thanks! Re: Remote host cannot be found 370H55V May 13, 2011 3:28 PM (in response to missytoe33) Could be something as simple as a single character in the password. I've pulled out hair for days until I realized my mistake. If FileZilla can connect you obviously know the correct login info. Do a double check to be sure you didn't typo something in DW Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 2. Re: Remote host cannot be found Luerr2 May 25, 2011 8:02 PM (in response to missytoe33) After pulling my hair out on this same very issue (I have windows 7) I found this article...and realized this WHOLE time FTP server was not turned on my windows machine. See the link below and follow the instructions to turn on the FTP server (this may work even if it's not windows 7) but this is what happened to me.http://digitizor.com/2009/06/20/how-to-install-a-ftp-server-in-windows-7/ Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions Go to original post Actions More Like This Retrieving data ... I've just bought a new hosting plan and domain name about an hour and a an ftp error half ago from Hostgator, and they use CPanel. In CPanel I see my: - FTP username - FTP server - FTP & explicit FTPS port: 21 So I enter all of these into Dreamweaver's manage sites -> site name -> servers, then click "test", and I get the error "An FTP error occurred - cannot make connection host. The remote host cannot be found". Oh and if I type in my domain name in a browser, it'll say "server not found". Now is this because I'm doing something wrong, or is my website not even activated yet? I remember when I used Godaddy hosting, my website took around 24 hours to activate. Is this the same case with Hostgator? Oh and if I use Dreamweaver to upload/download stuff, am I supposed to place all the content of the website in public_html or public_ftp?
