Back to top #4 primexx primexx Members 1 posts Posted 10 November 2007 - 07:33 AM Hi, that ftp server is down. It's not your or SmartFTPs failure.I just had this problem on both of my ftp connections, one is hosted by my university and the other is a paid hosting that I use. Both the websites were fine, and sporadically I could transfer a file or two on both connections. I disabled public ftp on my own hosting account, but I checked my university's and it works fine, so the FTP server is obviously up as well.Further, the problem started without me having made any changes to anything. I was just uploading as usual, and all of a sudden it told me transfer failed.It's SmartFTP's problem. Edited by primexx, 10 November 2007 - 07:35 AM. 2009. Eric Pinxteren New Member Hallo, I've finished the installation of ISPConfig3. But couldn’t connect with
Filezilla
ftp, from extern computer. A local connection within the server works fine. I have tried a ftp connection from a other Linux and a windows system: Code: ftp> open 192.168.10.10 Connected to 192.168.10.10. 421 Service not available, remote server has closed connection The server internet connection is through https://www.smartftp.com/forums/index.php?/topic/10992-server-closed-connection/ proxy, maybe because of some part of the installation does not work good? Apache and SquirrelMail works fine. I looked up the forum and gathered some information that could be useful: wsc:/etc# /etc/init.d/pure-ftpd-mysql restart Code: Restarting ftp server: Running: /usr/sbin/pure-ftpd-mysql-virtualchroot -l mysql:/etc/pure-ftpd/db/mysql.conf -l pam -E -b -A -u 1000 https://www.howtoforge.com/community/threads/ftp-problem-server-has-closed-connection.39697/ -O clf:/var/log/pure-ftpd/transfer.log –B wsc:/etc# /etc/init.d/openbsd-inetd restart Code: Restarting internet superserver: inetdNot starting internet superserver: no services enabled. wsc:/etc# netstat -tap | grep ftp Code: tcp 0 0 *:ftp *:* LISTEN 6339/pure-ftpd (SER tcp 1 0 localhost.localdo:36555 localhost.localdoma:ftp CLOSE_WAIT 6103/ftp tcp 20 0 localhost.localdo:36553 localhost.localdoma:ftp CLOSE_WAIT 6100/ftp tcp 20 0 localhost.localdo:36553 localhost.localdoma:ftp CLOSE_WAIT 6100/ftp tcp6 0 0 [::]:ftp [::]:* LISTEN 6339/pure-ftpd (SER wsc:/etc# netstat -tap Code: Active Internet connections (servers and established) Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name tcp 0 0 localhost.localdo:10024 *:* LISTEN 2443/amavisd (maste tcp 0 0 localhost.localdo:10025 *:* LISTEN 3083/master tcp 0 0 *:mysql *:* LISTEN 2507/mysqld tcp 0 0 localhost.localdo:spamd *:* LISTEN 2596/spamd.pid tcp 0 0 *:sunrpc *:* LISTEN 2201/portmap tcp 0 0 *:ftp *:* LISTEN 6339/pure-ftpd (SER tcp 0 0 wsc.cer.com:domain *:* LISTEN 3011/mydns tcp 0 0 localhost.locald:domain *:* LISTEN 3011/mydns tcp 0 0 *:ssh *:* LISTE

Error 421 User limit reached Error 421 You are not authorized to make the connection Error 421 Max connections reached Error 421 Max connections exceeded Maybe you're not reusing a connection but using a new connection for every request, flooding the server with connections until it hits the connection limit. Try closing your connections or resuing them. share|improve this answer answered Jul 17 '14 at 9:28 fiffy 503411 Yer you were right. I was exhausting the connection but now I reused the connection and it worked. Also thanks for providing the link. It is really helpful outside this question as well. It seems that once I successfully login into a server is get the following after running a command such as "ls" (I've enclosed the error portion in the "[ERROR]" tags): allen92@allen92-VirtualBox:~/Videos$ ftp -n ftp.FreeBSD.org Connected to ftp.FreeBSD.org. 220 beastie.tdk.net FTP server (Version 6.00LS) ready. ftp> user (username) anonymous 331 Guest login ok, send your email address as password. Password: 230 Guest login ok, access restrictions apply. Remote system type is UNIX. Using binary mode to transfer files. ftp> ls [ERROR] 421 Service not available, remote server has closed connection [ERROR] ftp> This seems to happen on any remote FTP server. Everything works fine when I login onto the local machine and run FTP commands. If in fact the "421" error is a generic error, is there any way to find out the source of the problem? Any leads on this would be appreciated. I haven't been able to find any support on this particular issue. Anybody with an similar problem please share your thoughts. NOTE: I have VSFTPD installed. ftp share|improve this question edited Apr 27 at 18:30 Anthon 47.5k1462125 asked Sep 13 '13 at 8:45 AllenD 3773612 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 7 down vote accepted There is most likely a NAT-firewall between you and the servers showing the symptom. (NAT-firewalls hide a whole network behind a single IP-number). The problem is that ftp wants to send the data resulting from the command in a new, separate TCP/IP connection and that cannot go through the firewall beca
