The server-FTP process may send at most, one 1xx reply per command. 2xx Positive Completion reply The requested action has been successfully completed. A new request may be initiated. 3xx Positive Intermediate reply The command has been accepted, but the requested action is being held in abeyance, pending receipt ftp error 421 service not available of further information. The user should send another command specifying this information. This reply is used in command sequence groups. 4xx Transient Negative Completion reply The command was not accepted and the requested action did not take place, but the error condition is temporary and the action may be requested again. The user should return to the beginning of the command sequence, if any. It is difficult to assign a meaning to "transient", particularly when two distinct sites (Server- and User-processes) have to agree on the interpretation. A rule of thumb in determining if a reply fits into the 4xx or the 5xx (Permanent Negative) category is that replies are 4xx if the commands can be repeated without any change in command form or in properties of the User or Server (e.g., the command is spelled the same with the same arguments used; the user does not

It's taken me https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_FTP_server_return_codes about 2 hours to upload some relatively small galleries - it will do between 5 and 20 files and I then get the above error message. Additionally, a particular html file would not upload at all - I tried about 5 times, each time being told that the file had been uploaded successfully (not that it hadn't been necessary to upload). Looked at 'Site Maintenance' - wasn't http://forums.serif.com/showthread.php?p=265671 there. Tried to upload the file through Filezilla, uploaded first time. I've spoken to my webhost to try to determine why this was happening, but let's say I didn't have much success, and have also done a web search from which I gleaned that some who are affected by this error have discovered that a file is being deleted on upload (I thought it was a 'permission' thing, but that's about as far as my knowledge in that area extends!). Does anyone know how to resolve this issue, please, as it's too time-consuming for words at the moment! Normally the 200 series means the requested action has been successfully completed, its the set to I which i havent come across before, i've seen the set to A mode which ended up being a passive mode port configuration issue, but

If I turn the firewall off COMPLETELY, it works. Obviously, this isn't really a satisfactory solution. I've attempted to follow these steps, but to now avail. On my remote machine I am using Filezilla as the FTP client. Below is the output it gives me as I attempt to access the site. As you can see, it manages to connect and authenticate, but the attempt to list the directory times out. Can somebody tell me where I should look next? Status: Connecting to 192.168.15.12:21...
