| Watch this File File Information Description FTP clients working behind a firewall often use a passive mode FTP connection to the server to avoid issues with their firewall. MATLAB's ftp object does not have passive mode capability. The attached files modify this MATLAB class to allow for this functionality. These files simply use the Java methods available in the FTPClient Java class used by MATLAB. See installation instructions in the README file. Files/functionss added: PASV(FTP) ACTIVE(FTP) dataMode(FTP) Files modified: @ftp/ftp.m @ftp/private/connect.m Update: December 29, 2010 - Updated install instructions allow this FTP class to work seamlessly with the MATLAB Compiler (original files will also work with Compiler if the new install instructions are followed). - Improved the object to preserve connection mode (active/passive) if connection to host is lost and then reconnected. - Updated files to use the R2010a version of FTP class. - Tested with MATLAB R2010a and R2010b. Error in METAR_read (line 10) mget(f,'KALB.TXT','data/observations/metar/stations/'); Any ideas? is this a syntax issue? something else? greatly appreciated, thanks! misha 0 Comments Show all comments Tags ftpmgetdir Products No products are associated with this question. Discussion in 'Networking' started by imported_goku, Jan 23, 2006. imported_goku Diamond Member Joined: Mar 28, 2004 Messages: 7,613 Likes Received: 0 Some people who connect to my FTP server get this error while others don't. I can't figure it out, this happens to people ftp error even with out firewalls/routers.. It's not browser specific either because it can "not work" on IE and FF and work on IE and FF. #1 imported_goku, Jan 23, 2006 Smilin Diamond Member Joined: Mar 4, 2002 Messages: 7,357 Likes Received: 0 The most common issue is active/passive + NAT problem. In a nutshell, most TCP connections are made TO a particular port matlab ftp error and then back on an ephemeral port that's specified in the session setup. Firewalls dig this. They can allow all outbound, and know when to let stuff back in cuz they saw the ephemeral port being specified when they first let stuff out. FTP is different. A client uses a PORT or PASV command that tells the server of a new set of ports to use for the data transfer. This command is issued in the upper, application layers. A plain TCP/IP firewall can't see that happening. The server attempts to setup this basically new connection and an intervening firewall says, "Whoa, BS. I don't let this port in!" One of the best explanations I've found is on ISAServer.org: http://www.isaserver.org/articles/How_t...ocol_Challenges_Firewall_Security.html Couple options for ya... Passive FTP option in IE is under: Internet options | advanced | Browsing category | Use Passive FTP You can also ensure your FTP server is either on the edge of your network or behind a firewall that is application layer aware (ISA, Checkpoint) #2 Smilin, Jan 23, 2006 (You must log in or sign up to post here.) directory, where f was created using ftp. mget(f,'dirname') retrieves the directory dirname and its contents from the FTP server f into the MATLAB current directory, where f was created using ftp. You can use a wildcard (*) in dirname. mget(...,'target') retrieves the specified items from the FTP server f, where f was created using ftp, into the local directory specified by target, where target is an absolute pathname. Examples Connect to the MathWorks FTP server, change to the pub/pentium directory, and retrieve the file Moler_1.txt into the MATLAB current directory. tmw=ftp('ftp.mathworks.com'); cd(tmw,'pub/pentium'); mget(tmw,'Moler_1.txt'); Then retrieve all files containing the term Moler into the directory d:/myfiles. mget(tmw,'*Moler*','d:/myfiles'); See Also cd (ftp), ftp, mput (ftp) mfilenamemin © 1994-2005 The MathWorks, Inc.
