information on there is extremely important to me and i'm gutted and worn out at this point. I'm tempted to bring it for a repair at my local mac shop but worried it will cost a fortune. Also it mite be worth mentioning that a few weeks ago i got a message saying 'start-up disk almost full' so i began clearing about 20 gig from my HD. Didn't recieve that message again. At the current time there is 6 gig free. Also the day before this problem began, the music making software i use gave a warning saying something along the lines of 'Cannot reload from save undo history'. This program crashes on me quite frequently but always returns to where it was when it crashed after i reopen the project, but it was now saying it could no longer do that. Alarm bells were obviously ringing but i didnt have time to investigate at that time. Full of regret now!! Any help on the matter is greatly appreciated. Many thanksR MacBook Pro Posted on Jan 25, 2014 4:27 PM I have this question too Close Q: Macbook pro won't boot, Disk utility input/output error All replies Helpful answers Page 1 Next by BDAqua, BDAqua Jan 25, 2014 4:38 PM in response to Rian... I do this my making disk images(.iso) from the dvds. To do this I use disk utility > new image > save as dvd/cd master. Started with some Battlestar Galactica. First 6 disks of season 1 went fine. Next 3 disks of season 2 went fine. First disk of season 2.5 I get an input/output error about 75% through the process. Clean the disc, enable any error-correction on your image conversion software, and give it a go again. share|improve this answer answered Sep 4 '09 at 17:10 caliban 17.1k43857 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote This could be a problem with the drive, or (more likely) a problem with the DVD. Perhaps there's a scratch on it, or maybe just a smudge. It's tough to say. If you copy the files directly, you can still play it with VLC. Also Disk Utility is not your only choice for backing up DVDs. I will point to MactheRipper or Handbrake for other options. share|improve this answer answered Sep 4 '09 at 17:11 jweede 5,12522532 add a comment| You must log in to answer this question. When I open the External drive in Finder, It shows it's empty. When I use the option to "Get Info", I get the dialog box stating it has about 300GB Free. I tried to access External Drive using Terminal, but I had no luck. Checking in Disk Utility, It showed that I have many number of files but ZERO folders. I tried to "repair disk", in the process the external Drive got unmounted in the process. I checked this drive on Windows. input output error I was able to open almost all the folders but I wasn't able to copy anything onto the external drive. One folder caused my windows computer to freeze. Then I connected the drive back onto my MacBook Pro and tried to access the drive through terminal (this time it worked!) and then I tried to delete a folder with rm command, I got an "input/output error". I tried to enter in to the folder with "cd" command but my terminal got frozen. What should i do to recover the files in that folder? What can I do to fix my External Hard disk ? terminal finder hard-drive external-disk share|improve this question asked Oct 1 '14 at 4:45 Jash Jacob 2,75541839 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 3 down vote accepted If Windows is having trouble opening various folders and is causing your drive to freeze, it suggests that the file system is corrupted or that the disk itself is failing. The first thing you should do is run chkdsk on the drive from a Windows system to correct any errors with the NTFS file system. If you still have trouble, I suspect that there's little you can do. As for mounting it on the Mac, understand that OS X mounts NTFS file systems in read-only mode. As such, you'll be able to copy important data off of the drive, but you won't be able to update it or write new data to it. Repairin
