a back-up and restore my files hasn't worked. I firstly had to re-formatted the external hardrive to 'mac-os extended journaled' as trying to save an image of the Machintosh HD resulted in an error msg saying 'not enough' free space. Once formatted and with 1TB free space another attempt at saving the drive as an image to my external drive resulted in an error messgae after 10 mins saying 'Input/output error. This keeps happening.I've also

tried to 'verfify disk' on both external and enternal drives and all is coming back fine.Is there anything else i can do to retrive the contents of my macbook? The information on there is extremely important to me and i'm gutted and worn out at this point. I'm tempted to bring it for a repair at my local mac shop but worried it will cost a fortune. Also it mite be worth mentioning that a few weeks ago i got a message saying 'start-up disk almost full' so i began clearing about 20 gig from my HD. Didn't recieve that message again. At the current time there is 6 gig free. Also the day before this problem began, the music making software i use gave a warning saying something along the lines of 'Cannot reload from save undo history'. This program crashes on me quite frequently but always returns to where it was when it crashed after i reopen the project, but it was now saying it could no longer do that. Alarm bells were obviously ringing but i didnt have time to investigate at that time. Full of regret now!! Any help on the matter is greatly appreciated. Many thanksR MacBook Pro Posted on Jan 25, 2014 4:27 PM I have this question too Close Q: Macbook pro won't boot, Disk utility input/out

Clean the disc, enable any error-correction on your image conversion software, and give it a go again. share|improve this answer answered Sep 4 '09 at 17:10 caliban 17.1k43857 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote This could be a problem with the drive, or (more likely) a problem with the DVD. Perhaps there's a scratch on it, or maybe just a smudge. It's tough to say. If you copy the files directly, you can still play it with VLC. Also Disk Utility is not your only choice for backing up DVDs. I will point to MactheRipper or Handbrake

It has been given to me without hard drive in it and I have no clue about what it went through. The laptop works perfectly booting from Ubuntu cd. I have two hard drives to try with, both “Western Digital” and both 160 gb: Hard Drive 1: WD1600BEKT, brand new guaranteed by the ebay seller to be specifically compatible with my MacBook Pro A1150; input output error Hard Drive 2: WD1600BEVT, pretty old. I've installed both drives (one per time obviously) in a Dell Inspiron 1525, installed Ubuntu OS and both drives worked perfectly. Now I install the drives in the MacBook, and every time I do so I call one SMC reset and three PRAM resets. 50% of the times the drive is detected and a faulty Ubuntu OS is loaded. 50% of the times the drive is not seen at all and I get the question mark folder. Same goes when I boot the pc from Ubuntu cd, 50% of the times the hard drive is shown on “Disks” application, 50% it doesn't appear. When “Disks” shows the hard drive, still the hard drive is not really accessible, only one time out of dozens SMART data was available. Time to install Ubuntu, or at least try: 50% of the times the hard drive is not detected and installation cannot be initiated; 50% of the times the hard drive is detected, the installation seems to be started but after few seconds I get “Input/output error during read on /dev/sda” I've replaced the hard drive cable and after that I went through the exact

DVD Copy: Input/output Error on Disk Utility Hi, I'm trying to make multiple copies of a DVD i've made using iDVD and can't get it to work using Disk Utility. While searching for an explanation of the error i get i found a similar question on another forum, which remained unanswered. "Input/output Error" would suggest it was a driver problem or suchlike to me but that doesn't follow the usual problem-free Mac driver set-up. I've made copies of a previous DVD i made by this method , and have since followed the 'Help' to the letter to no avail. I've tried several third party copying utilities to no avail. Is my system damaged? Is there another way to copy DVDs? Note: it takes my old Mac 4hrs to render the DV for disk burning purposes, and even then it only burns few before any system interupt halts the process (freezes). I need probably 20+ copies of a friends social event and the footage so far covers three DVD's, it's turning into a nightmare! I'm running an old G4 (AGP Graphics) with processor upgraded to 1.4GHz, an added DVD burner, 1.12GB SDRAM, and two added HDDs, one internal one external, with the DV on the added HDDs. (the original 30G one is full of software!)
