I got my first mac last week and have since transferred my music collection off of my old pc to my new mac. (Using the apple support instructions). The library seems to be fine, and when i restore my ipod all the songs, movies and podcasts sync on perfectly. But when I sync again after adding a new album or song it comes with this error:Attempting to copy to the disk "MyPod" failed. An unknown error occured (-48).and sometimes, when this goes away, itunes claims that my ipod is being used in another library and needs to be restored. To counter this problem, I have tried transferring my music again, and restored my ipod many times. But this meassage always seems to re-appear when i sync my ipod. Can someone please help me out?iMac C2D 2.16Ghz Mac OS X (10.4.8) Posted on Dec 26, 2006 6:55 AM I have this question too Close Q: Unknown error (-48) when syncing iPod All replies Helpful answers by Zevoneer, Zevoneer Dec 26, 2006 7:03 AM in response to Zedsdead Level 9 (52,704 points) Dec 26, 2006 7:03 AM in response to Zedsdead At the moment there's no reliable long term fix for this error, Apple are currently working on a permanent solution. This is the workaround I'm currently using until a reliable fix comes along.Set up iTunes "not" to open when you connect the iPod.Enable Disk Use on the iPod Eject the iPod and shut down iTunesReconnect the iPod and open Disk UtilityClick on your iPod in the Utility pane and choose Repair Disk which will find and fix a number of errors. Close Disk Utility and open iTunes and your iPod should connect and update as usual.Keep the settings above and each time you connect the iPod to update it run Disk Utility repair as above before opening iTunes. It's far from being a acceptable answer but until a permanent one comes along I've found that it works for me. Another fix that's been posted is to restore the iPod on a PC and format it for Windows but I don't see that as a permanent solution for anyone who only ever uses a Mac. to be an essential part of your working day. Whether I'm listening to my favourite podcasts or concentrating with the help of some soothing music, iTunes stays running all through the day. Which is why I started to become pretty worried when a recurring error started to appear recently. Each time I start iTunes, I receive an error warning stating that "The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-48)". It took me a bit of time to work out how to fix this problem, so I thought I'd pass on what I found. This error basically stems from iTunes https://discussions.apple.com/thread/785753?start=0&tstart=0 not being able to write its Library file to your iTunes folder. To fix it, simply find your iTunes folder (located in My Documents > My Music, in my case), right click the folder's icon and choose ‘Properties‘. From here, click ‘Advanced‘ and make sure that Fast indexing is switched off for the folder. Also, make sure that in the main properties dialog box, ‘Read only‘ is completely unchecked. This http://features.en.softonic.com/how-to-fix-itunes-library-file-error-48 worked for me, but let me know if you're having further problems with error (-48).
