I have used the current versions of NS and an older version of iTunes, version 10.7, together for years with no problems. In December 2014, I updated iTunes to version 12.0.1.26. Almost immediately thereafter, although my iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen continued to be properly detected by iTunes 12, I was unable to sync the iPod Shuffle with iTunes ("unknown error occurred (-53); disk is not available"). I recently upgraded to iTunes version 12.1, with no change to my problem or to the error messages. After many hours with Apple Support, all to no avail, the only solution that allowed my iPod to work perfectly with iTunes was to uninstall NS. Now that I have re-installed NS, the same problems persist - cannot sync iPod Shuffle with iTunes. Computer #2: OS - Win 7, 8 GB RAM, current license and version of Norton Security. As a test, I installed iTunes old version 10.7 f

The Required File Is Locked" error while trying to sync your Apple iPod using iTunes as shown below the fix could be pretty simple. All the error means is that iTunes is unable to read/write to the database file inside your device, their could be several possible reasons for the error which might be recoverable depending on the cause of the error. There are two common reasons for this error, first being database corruption due to syncing error or physical media corruption and second being library getting locked out for writing due to read-only attribute. In most cases this error can be solved as follows: Open My Computer and navigate to your iPod disk, now Right-Click the iPod_Control folder and remove the read-only attribute if on. Now, Open My Computer, Right-click your iPod disk drive and click Properties. Goto Tools and click Check Now button from "Error-checking section". Check "Automatically fix file system error" and Click Start. Let the scan complete, eject your iPod and reconnect. If you still receive the error, try restoring your iPod from iTunes. The Apple iPod Shuffle Without iTunes By Ben Nadel on September 23, 2008 I don't like iTunes. Never have. I use it only when I have to update my iPhone or put https://www.bennadel.com/blog/1360-using-the-apple-ipod-shuffle-without-itunes.htm some music on my iPod, but I try to use it as little as possible. None of the updates to it ever seem to make it more usable; it's a clunky, slow piece of software with an unresponsive interface. That aside, I wanted to find a way to use my iPod shuffle without iTunes; I wanted to be able to put music on it without having to use my iTunes library. ipod shuffle As it turns out, there is a really simple, awesome application that allows you to do this - iShuffle: Here's what you have to do:Download the iShuffle ZIP.Unzip it and copy the "iShuffle.exe" application to the root of your iPod Shuffle (%IPOD_ROOT%/iShuffle.ext).Copy and paste your desired MP3s into the Music folder in the root of your iPod Shuffle (%IPOD_ROOT%/Music/).Run iShuffle.exe (located in the root ipod shuffle error of your iPod Shuffle). When you run the application, it looks at the music in your Music folder and creates the appropriate play lists on the iPod Shuffle. You will have to run this little app every time you update the music on the iPod Shuffle. I used my iPod Shuffle for the first time in a while last night and I had this up and running in seconds.
